Dollar Into Mississippi Hall of Fame

BILOXI, Miss.-NCUA Chairman Dennis Dollar has been inducted into the Mississippi CU Hall of Fame. Dollar was inducted during the Mississippi CU System's Annual Conference in Biloxi last week. Prior to joining the NCUA board, Dollar was CEO of Gulfport VA FCU (now Gulf Coast Community FCU) in Gulfport, Miss., and also served for two years in the Mississippi House of Representatives.

"What a humbling honor this is," said Dollar. "Thank you so much to so many of you who were my mentors in the credit union movement. I look in the audience today and see the people who taught me the philosophies of the credit union movement."

Inducted along with Dollar was Betty Jean Hughes, treasurer/manager of Biloxi Teachers FCU. Hughes has a 38- year history in the credit union movement. In addition to her service at her own credit union, she is a former vice- president and two-term president of the Gulf Coast Chapter of Credit Unions, has served on numerous League committees, and is a graduate of the Southeast Regional Credit Union School.

CU of New Jersey Business of Year

EWING, N.J.-The Credit Union of New Jersey has been given the Large Business of the Year Award at the Ewing (N.J.) Township Economic Development Summit. "We are extremely honored to receive this prestigious community award. Credit Union of New Jersey is committed to providing Ewing Township residents with excellent service and a financial partner that is second to none," said CEO Andrew L. Jaeger. The $150-million CU serves 30,000 people.

Community First Gets SBA Status

APPLETON, Wis.-Community First Credit Union has become the first in Wisconsin to earn status as an SBA Certified lender. The credit union held an event at its main office here with media and SBA representatives to highlight its qualification to participate in the Small Business Administration's program.
