Wescom CU Mourns Robert Brain

PASADENA, Calif.-Robert Brain, a longtime manager of Wescom CU and a leader in the credit union movement, died last week at his home in Pasadena after a long battle with Lou Gehrig's disease. He was 75.

Brain served on the board of the credit union, then known as Telephone Employees CU, from 1966 to 1971, then was president from 1971 to 1997, guiding the credit union, which changed its name to Wescom CU in 1996, to over $1 billion in assets.

By the time Brain retired in 1997 Wescom had 12 branches and more than 100,000 members and was one of the biggest CUs in the country.

Morton Heads NCUA Region IV

ALEXANDRIA, Va.-The National Credit Union Administration Board has named Keith C. Morton director of Region IV effective May 14.

As Region IV director, Morton is responsible for oversight of the chartering, examination and supervision program for federal credit unions in Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas and Wisconsin.

Morton has been serving in Austin, Texas, as an associate regional director and got his start at NCUA in 1986 as an examiner in Region II.
