World Council Meets In Dublin

DUBLIN, Ireland-The World Council of Credit Unions kicked off its World Conference here last week with nearly 2,000 people in attendance from 48 countries. Ireland's former president, Mary Robinson, addressed the meeting, as did the country's Minister for Finance, Brian Cowen. Statesman John Hume received the 2006 Distinguished Service Award in recognition of his work in promoting CUs in Ireland.

Sargent Named Chair of CMN

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH-Tom Sargent, CEO of the Beaverton, Ore.-based First Tech CU, has been appointed chairman of the Children's Miracle Network Board of Trustees, here. "Tom Sargent has served Children's Miracle Network with diligence and enthusiasm," said Jim Hall, CEO of Children's Miracle Network. "I'm confident his leadership, expertise and love for kids will continue to advance the important mission of Children's Miracle Network."

CU Execs To Be On Radio Show

SAN FRANCISCO-Three local CU leaders will be featured live on a Bay-area radio station interview program Aug. 2.

Lynn Athens, CEO of Spectrum Federal CU; Diana Dykstra, CEO of San Francisco Fire CU; and Shirley Krohn, board chairwoman of Spectrum, will appear on the program, "Your Legal Rights," on public-radio station KALW 91.7 FM from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. The three will discuss the topic "The Credit Union Difference" with program host Chuck Finney, San Mateo County deputy district attorney. The show also will be streamed live on the Internet at www.kalw.org. Copies of the program will be available on CD for $15 from the radio station.

NASCUS Agenda Is Set

ARLINGTON, Va.-The NASCUS State System Summit, Aug. 10-12 in Dana Point, Calif., will feature J. Timothy O'Neill, senior counsel for the House Financial Services Committee, Geoff Bacino, Federal Housing Finance Board (FHFB) nominee, and CUNA Mutual Group CEO Jeff Post.
