SALT LAKE CITY - (07/06/06) Zions First National Bankannounced Wednesday it is rolling out a biometric fingerprintauthentication system for check-cashing at 12 branches in Utah andIdaho. The new system is being provided by Pay By Touch, whichacquired the technology a year ago when it acquired BioPay LLC, ofHerndon, Va. The unit of Zions Bancorporation is the firstfinancial institution in the country to introduce fingerprintidentification on a broad scale. With the Zions system, calledZions Express, customers must first register at a participatingZions branch; show proof of identity; then have his or herfingerprint scanned. The one-time sign-up takes only minutes andprovides the bank with ready and quick identification whenever theycustomer comes in to cash a check.
