'Good Karma'

TruStone Financial FCU, Plymouth, Minn., gave $1,000 to Good Karma Animal Rescue of MN, one of four finalists in the CU’s social media campaign, Show Us Your Neighborgood. The campaign provided donations to three other non-profit organizations across the Midwest, making the total contribution to all non-profits $1,500.

The credit union and the diaper bank

San Antonio-based Security Service FCU’s Charitable Foundation donated $2,500 to the Pueblo Catholic Charities’ Diaper Bank. The funds will help provide clean diapers and wipes to the most vulnerable babies in the Pueblo, Colo., community.

Campaign kick-off

The New Jersey CU League’s Banking You Can Trust consumer awareness campaign kicked off its “Leaders Series” on NJ 101.5 FM. XCEL FCU President/CEO and NJCUL Board Member Linda McFadden spoke on-air with popular radio host—and proud member of multiple credit unions—Bill Spadea. McFadden explained the difference between credit unions and banks.

Indiana Members CU, Indianapolis, named The PourHouse, Inc., as the latest quarterly winner of the Homeless/Basic Needs Related Category for the IMCU Gives Back Campaign. The CU made a $6,000 donation to help the organization serve homeless individuals in Indianapolis.

Charity of choice

Employees of Cornerstone FCU, Carlisle, Pa., selected its local Salvation Army as its latest charity of choice. A check in the amount of $250 was presented to the non-profit from employee jeans days and monetary donations from members.

'Guns & Hoses'

Member One FCU, Roanoke, Va., sponsored the 14th annual Guns & Hoses Charity Hockey Game, pitting area police officers and law enforcement personnel versus firefighters. The CU has participated for several years, and this year hosted the “Puck Shot Game.” With a capacity crowd of 6,500 in attendance, the event raised $38,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Coats for kids

Align CU, Lowell, Mass., with the help of its members, donated more than 100 coats to the annual Coats for Kids winter coat drive. The coats are passed along to those in need throughout Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire.

Employees of Army Aviation Center FCU, Daleville, Ala., donated $11,600 to 21 nonprofit organizations in AACFCU's service areas of Southeast Alabama, Florida's Emerald Coast and the Mobile Bay area. All funds were raised in exchange for wearing jeans to work.
