The Knoxville-area Chapter of Credit Unions, in conjunction with the Tennessee CU League, hosted a Legislative Appreciation Dinner. Legislators in attendance included Lt. Gov. Randy McNally, Sen. Richard Briggs, Sen. Becky Duncan Massey, and Representatives Roger Cane, Bill Dunn, Eddie Smith and Jason Zachary.

Midland County Habitat for Humanity named Dow Chemical Employees’ CU, Midland, Mich., the organization’s Corporate Partner for the CU’s commitment to and support for “bringing people together to build homes, community and hope.”

Harvey relief donation

Tower FCU, Laurel, Md., wanted to help victims of Hurricane Harvey, so it set a goal to raise $10,000 plus a $10,000 match by the CU. Donations from employees and members far exceeded the goal, with the $10,000 match making the total donation to the Red Cross $52,282.

Teacher appreciation

TDECU, Lake Jackson, Texas, supported several teacher appreciation events in area school districts. TDECU sponsored meals for several of the events, and provided reusable lunch totes to teachers as a special thank you for their commitment to educating area youth. Separately, TDECU was a primary sponsor of the third annual Riverside Food Truck Festival, a foodie-focused event held each year in Victoria, Texas.

Redwood CU, Santa Rosa, Calif., received the “Healthy Business Leader” award from the Center for Well-Being at the Celebration of Dreams event. RCU was recognized for its commitment to both the financial and personal wellness of its members, employees, and communities.

The employees of Solidarity Community FCU, Kokomo, Ind., are surprising random residents of the community by paying for their purchases at grocery stores, the local Goodwill store, K-Mart, gasoline stations and many more locations.

Food bank donations

Golden 1 CU, Sacramento, Calif., donated $52,500 to several food banks that help Californians in need of food as part of its sixth annual Food Bank Donation Program.

Top workplace

iQ Credit Union, Vancouver, Wash., ranked 10th among the 40 highest scoring midsized companies throughout Oregon and SW Washington in The Oregonian/OregonLive Top Workplace 2017 survey. The credit union was the only financial institution listed in the survey.

Hurricane relief donations

Elevations CU, Boulder, Colo., and its Elevations Foundation, launched a $25,000 challenge grant to raise money for Hurricane Harvey victims in the Houston area. Not only did the community meet the challenge amount, it exceeded it, with donations in excess of $33,000, making the CU’s total aid to Texas $58,541. Upon hearing about the devastation from Hurricane Irma in Florida, Elevations provided another $25,000 in aid to South Florida.
