Backpack donation

Sikorsky CU, Stratford, Conn., donated 300 backpacks to the Sterling House Community Center. The backpacks were used for the Sterling House summer day camp program. The CU has donated more than 1,000 backpacks to the community center in the past four years.

Dover honors veteran of three wars

Dover FCU, Dover, Del., joined forces with several organizations, including Purple Heart Homes, to honor 95 year-old veteran Edward Littlejohn, who served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. THe credit union helped Littlejohn by building a wheelchair ramp so he can enter and leave his home safely and with dignity.

Event venue debuts

TDECU, Lake Jackson, Texas, teamed up with Shulman’s Movie Bowl Grille and the Bay City Community Development Corporation to bring the long-anticipated event venue to Bay City. The facility features an eight-screen movie theatre, 12-lane bowling alley and a full-service restaurant. TDECU also sponsored Lemonade Day to empower young entrepreneurs.

8th grade scholarship

People's CU, Middletown, R.I., announced recipients of its 2017 8th Grade Scholarship. The scholarships were awarded based on school involvement, community involvement and the answer to an essay question. Each of the three scholarship recipients will receive $1,000 upon completion of their senior year of high school.

Gerber FCU, Fremont, Mich., conducted an e-statement enrollment drive for one month. Three new enrollees were randomly selected to each receive a $50 Visa Gift card.

First Commonwealth FCU, Bethlehem, Pa., said all of its retail team associates and managers have completed a nationally-accredited training program and are Certified Financial Wellness Coaches. More than 95 team members, or 54 percent of the CU’s total employees, are CFWCs.
