Backpack donation
Sikorsky CU, Stratford, Conn., donated 300 backpacks to the Sterling House Community Center. The backpacks were used for the Sterling House summer day camp program. The CU has donated more than 1,000 backpacks to the community center in the past four years.
Dover honors veteran of three wars
Dover FCU, Dover, Del., joined forces with several organizations, including Purple Heart Homes, to honor 95 year-old veteran Edward Littlejohn, who served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. THe credit union helped Littlejohn by building a wheelchair ramp so he can enter and leave his home safely and with dignity.
Teachers gives scholarships
Teachers FCU, Hauppauge, N.Y., presented four $2,500 TFCU scholarships and two New York Credit Union Association scholarships, in the amounts of $1,500 and $500, to local graduating high school seniors.
Top workplace honors
First Capital FCU, York, Pa., was selected the Best Credit Union in York County by readers of Susquehanna Style magazine.
Alma mater celebration
In Aston, Pa., Sun East FCU staff donned college and university shirts from their alma maters to celebrate Student Aid Awareness Month at the credit union. Sun East used the occasion to honor the educational achievements of its employees and members.
Event venue debuts
TDECU, Lake Jackson, Texas, teamed up with Shulman’s Movie Bowl Grille and the Bay City Community Development Corporation to bring the long-anticipated event venue to Bay City. The facility features an eight-screen movie theatre, 12-lane bowling alley and a full-service restaurant. TDECU also sponsored Lemonade Day to empower young entrepreneurs.
8th grade scholarship
People's CU, Middletown, R.I., announced recipients of its 2017 8th Grade Scholarship. The scholarships were awarded based on school involvement, community involvement and the answer to an essay question. Each of the three scholarship recipients will receive $1,000 upon completion of their senior year of high school.
E-statement enrollment
Gerber FCU, Fremont, Mich., conducted an e-statement enrollment drive for one month. Three new enrollees were randomly selected to each receive a $50 Visa Gift card.
First Commonwealth gets healthy
First Commonwealth FCU, Bethlehem, Pa., said all of its retail team associates and managers have completed a nationally-accredited training program and are Certified Financial Wellness Coaches. More than 95 team members, or 54 percent of the CU’s total employees, are CFWCs.
Advocacy award
Rivertrust FCU, Pearl, Miss., was one of 17 CUs in Mississippi that earned an advocacy award recognizing credit unions for extraordinary efforts to protect, strengthen and expand CUs, and improve the lives of members who choose credit unions as their financial services partner.
Class is in session
Pelican State CU, Baton Rouge, La., hosted Rex Johnson’s University of Lending for more than 60 attendees from 21 different credit unions across the state.
Scholarship winner
Hopewell FCU, Heath, Ohio, announced the winner of its annual $1,000 scholarship: Shae Miller, a graduate of Lakewood High School.
Alzheimer's donation
Employees of GCS Credit Union, Granite City, Ill., went purple for Alzheimer's Disease Awareness and Caregivers Month, raising $1,095 for the Alzheimer's Association.
Elko's scholars
In Elko, Nev., Elko FCU and KENV-TV awarded 2017 Student Scholarships to four area high school seniors: one $1,000 scholarship and three $500 scholarships.
