Gerber
Employees of Gerber FCU, Fremont, Mich., participated in the TrueNorth Community Services Bowlapalooza Bowl for Kids Sake and raised $545.32.
Massachusetts
The Massachusetts' Credit Union Essay Contest, sponsored by the Financial Literacy Committee of the Cooperative CU Association, held its annual awards ceremony recently in the prestigious Hall of Flags at the Statehouse in Boston.
Security Service
San Antonio-based Security Service Charitable Foundation donated $10,000 to the Alpine Transition and Education Center in Utah, which will fund the purchase of two Smart Boards, tools which help students with special needs have a well-rounded classroom experience.
Jeanne
Natalie Barros, a 7th grader at Saint Michael School in Lowell, Mass. and a member of Jeanne DArc CU, won first place in the 2016 Massachusetts Credit Union Student Essay Contest. The contest is open for students in 7th and 8th grade in Massachusetts schools.
Langley
Langley FCU, Newport News, Va., presented four deserving young members with the Jean M. Yokum $5,000 College Scholarship award for academic achievement. The four winners were selected from more than 80 applicants.
AltaOne
AltaOne FCU, Ridgecrest, Calif., co-sponsored the first Scholar Athlete Award with The Swap Sheet, in partnership with Sherman E. Burroughs High School. York College-bound Greg Williams won $1,500 and two finalists received $500 scholarships.
LAFCU
LAFCU, Lansing, Mich., awarded the 2016 Write to Educate $2,500 college scholarships to two high school seniors. As a part of their awards, the students each selected a charity to receive a $500 donation from LAFCU: the Greater Lansing Food Bank and Salvation Army Owosso.
Elevations
In Boulder, Colo., Elevations CUs Foundation awarded $48,000 in scholarships to 20 recipients.
Compass
In Medley, Fla., when Detective Fernando Perez was named the 2015 Officer of the Year by the Medley Police Department, the staff and members of Compass Financial FCU were ecstatic for the longtime member of the credit union, so they presented him with Dolphins VIP home tickets.
Municipal
Municipal CU, New York City, awarded $66,000 in scholarships to college-bound graduating high school seniors: eight memorial scholarship grants of $5,000 each and 13 grants of $2,000 each.
