Seven marathons in seven days

Suffolk FCU, Medford, N.Y., was the lead sponsor for extreme distance marathon runner Eva Casale as the CU’s VP of IT completed seven marathons in seven days to raise funds and awareness for Hope for the Warriors, which provides support programs for service members, veterans and military families. Suffolk will be celebrating its 50th anniversary throughout 2017.

Rehabbing houses

Robins Financial CU, Warner Robins, Ga., sponsored Rebuilding Together by contributing $5,000 to its annual Work Day event. CU employees helped rehabilitate a home for a low-income homeowner in the community by doing yard work, painting and more.

Corner@Drake ribbon cutting

Battle Creek, Mich.-based Kellogg Community CU held a ribbon-cutting celebration at its new branch in Kalamazoo, in the Corner@Drake development. It is in the same development at Stadium Drive and Drake Road where retailers Costco and Field & Stream are located.

North Jersey FCU, Totowa, N.J., commemorated the addition to its latest group of branches by dedicating the building to its former chairman, Frank Migliaccio, who died in January.

Air Force Awards sponsor

Andrews FCU, Suitland, Md., served as a sponsor for the Air Force Annual Awards Banquet at the SHAPE Club, located on S.H.A.P.E., outside of Mons, Belgium. Separately, Andrews, the sponsor of the Millionaire’s Club at North Point HS in Waldorf, Md., purchased personalized, long-sleeve pullovers for the club’s student members and club advisor.

IMCU joins the fight against cancer

Indiana Members CU, Indianapolis, has an exclusive Cancer Awareness Card, which will benefit a different local cancer-related organization each year. Pink Ribbon Connection, a breast cancer organization, was selected as this year’s beneficiary. Separately, IMCU gave $2,266 to Brownsburg Community Schools as part of an ongoing school spirit debit card program.

Recognizing those who make an impact

In Michigan, the Battle Creek Chapter of CUs honor local non-profit organizations that have made a positive impact. Junior Achievement of Southwest Michigan was one of the organizations given $1,500 to use toward educating students grades K-12 about entrepreneurship, work readiness and financial literacy through hands-on programs.

Northwest FCU, Herndon, Va., is celebrating its 70th anniversary by working with its community partners, members and employees to perform 70 Acts of We to benefit the communities the CU serves, as well as the members who have contributed to 70 successful years.

Helping the homeless

The mortgage department of Meriwest CU, San Jose, Calif., collected donations for a month, including eight sleeping bags plus $1,800 in cash, for Abode Services, one of the largest and most effective Bay Area nonprofits fighting to end homelessness.
