Jax FCU, Jacksonville, Fla., presented Ryan Wallace with a $1,000 scholarship. Wallace, a 2017 graduate of Jean Ribault Senior High School, is a freshman at Florida A&M University who plans to study biomedical engineering.

Garden Savings FCU, Parsippany, N.J., raised more than $16,000 for two local charitable groups at its 7th Annual Golf Outing. The proceeds will be split between Children’s Specialized Hospital of New Brunswick and the Rutgers Youth Education and Success Center of Newark.

St. Anne’s CU, Fall River, Mass., sponsored the 23rd annual free summer concert, attracting an estimated 2,000 people to Heritage State Park and Fall River’s waterfront. St. Anne’s brings this free event to the community in cooperation with WSAR and the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation.

NRL Federal Credit Union, Alexandria, Va., presented a top-level donation of $17,546 to Credit Union Miracle Day. The funds resulted from a debit card promotion that saw a milestone of more than 1 million swipes – double the number of swipes from the quarter before.

San Diego County CU’s Classroom Heroes program recognized Laura Stuber, who teaches sixth grade at Solana Pacific School. Stuber received a $500 SDCCU Visa gift card, plus she was recognized as a Classroom Hero on a billboard in her community.

Chili Cook-Off benefits kids

Kinecta FCU, Manhattan Beach, Calif., hosted its 5th Annual Chili Cook-Off and Community Celebration. The event honored local police and fire departments for their service, and it raised $900, which Kinecta matched for a grand total of $1,800. All proceeds were donated to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

Brand new branch

Infinity FCU, Portland, Maine, held a ribbon-cutting for its new branch in Portland’s Back Cove. The branch is Infinity FCU’s fourth. The branch environment provides a personal “Maine” feel, comfortable and outdoorsy with exposed wood and stone, but with the latest technology.

Freedom FCU honors educators

Freedom FCU, Bel Air, Md., named Deborah Pawlowicz the winner of its 2017 Golden Apple-Plus Annual Educator Award competition. Pawlowicz won the top $1,000 prize for her idea to interact with technology and use it as a means to improve the reading skills of her students. Two other educators each received $250 runner-up prizes.

BMI FCU, Dublin, Ohio, hosted a Finances 101 game as part of the Dublin Chamber of Commerce’s iCare, iServe, iLead summer camp for middle school youth. Separately, the CU started a new program for foster and inner city youth called My Money Matters.

Staff from Coastal Community and Teachers CU, Corpus Christi, Texas, made lunch for the residents of the local Ronald McDonald House. Lunch included spaghetti, salad, tea and water, plus an assortment of desserts.
