Prestige breaks ground

Dallas-based Prestige Community CU celebrated breaking ground on its new branch in McKinney, Texas. La Macchia Group, Milwaukee, helped design and build the 2,600-square-foot branch, which will include drive-thru teller lines and a community meeting room.

ESL grant

St. Mary’s Bank, Manchester, N.H., awarded the Webster House a $2,500 grant to help prepare its youth residents to be successful adults. Separately, the CU presented a $3,000 grant to the Holy Cross Family Learning Center to support English as a Second Language classes.

Dora Maxwell winner

Meridian Trust FCU, Cheyenne, Wyo., won the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award in recognition of the community work done by Meridian Trust staff at all of the CU’s branch locations.

Angel Tree

People's CU, Middletown, R.I., participated in the Salvation Army's Angel Tree Program during the holiday season, with coordination from the CU’s Community Enhancement Committee. The program provides new clothing and/or toys for families with children.

Diamond CU, Pottstown, Pa., marked the 20th anniversary of its partnership with the Reading Health System, which joined Diamond as a Select Employer Group in 1996.

Holiday delivery

In San Diego, more than 25 Mission FCU “elves” personally delivered and donated 12 holiday trees to the San Diego Center for Children. The Mission Fed volunteers decorated trees based on a theme of their choice, with some even making their own decorations.

Hygiene help

First New York FCU, Albany, N.Y., collected more than 1,000 rolls of toilet paper and hundreds of personal care items to share with Catholic Charities Tri-County Services to assist Capital Region residents who receive Food Stamps (and are not permitted to use those to purchase personal hygiene products).

Staff from FreeStar Financial CU, Clinton Township, Mich., visited Richmond High School to host a budgeting simulation for high school students called Mad City Money.

Toy donation

In Lowell, Mass., employees and members of Jeanne D’Arc CU donated toys to benefit Toys for Local Children. With collection boxes at each of its locations, the CU collected nearly 500 toys, including games, dolls, action figures, stuffed animals, toy cars and trucks, and even bicycles.
