Voyage FCU broke ground on its newest location on the eastern side of Sioux Falls, S.D. The branch, currently housed in a Lewis Drug Store, will move into the Dawley Farms development on the eastern edge of the city for an opening in spring 2017.

Michigan State University FCU, East Lansing, Mich., was named fifth in the nation in the $1 billion and more total assets category for its financial education program by the National Youth Involvement Board. MSUFCU also received 2016 Gold Award Recognition through the American Heart Association’s Fit-Friendly Worksites recognition program.

The NWFCU Foundation, the charitable arm of Northwest FCU, Herndon, Va., collected backpacks and school supplies for Fairfax County Public Schools, donating them along with a $1,000 check. The CU also donated a truck of food and $2,500 to LINK, a local food pantry, and sponsored the Swing for Soldiers golf tournament and the Dulles Day 5K/10K on the Runway.d

Andrews FCU, Suitland, Md., donated $1,000 to Malcolm Elementary School for classroom supplies. Separately, the CU awarded a school supplies shopping spree to member Ronda Mozie for her two children, donated new clothes to Franconia School, sponsored a Senior Non-Commissioned Officer Induction Ceremony, and participated in two Walks to End Alzheimer’s.

Credit Union of America, Wichita, Kan., awarded a $250 gift certificate for Bed, Bath and Beyond to Amber Fischer, a Wichita State University senior majoring in Aerospace Engineering, who was the winner of the CU’s #deckyourdorm Instagram contest. Each student received a door-hanger with contest info as part of a welcome packet when checking in to their dorms.

In preparation for the opening of Burnsville, Minn.-based Firefly CU’s first high school branch location in early 2017, three Burnsville High School students spent their summer acclimating themselves to the credit union atmosphere. Firefly also donated 64,728 crayons to local schools.

First City CU, Los Angeles, raised and donated $6,000 to various area hospitals through its FirstStart Piggy Bank promotion. The CU’s donation of $3,540 to Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles was matched by CO-OP Financial Services’ Miracle Match program.

Merrimack Valley CU, Lawrence, Mass., donated $5,000 to The Psychological Center to sponsor The Center’s Fall Gala, which raised funds to support the non-profit’s homelessness, addiction and mental health services. MVCU also commemorated the opening of its Seabrook Branch with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting and grand opening.

Financial Center First CU, Indianapolis, hosted its 18th annual charity golf outing, which raised nearly $18,000 for a trio of local organizations: the Association of the United States Army’s scholarship fund, the Indiana Military Veterans Hall of Fame and the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry.

Following Louisiana’s Great Flood of 2016, Baton Rouge-based Pelican State CU’s branch in Denham Springs took on 3.5 feet of water. But with the community in need of financial services, the CU and Labarre Associates, Inc., worked together to temporarily transform the credit union’s drive-thru into a full-service, convenient and spacious branch in nine short days.

Employees of Belco Community CU, Harrisburg, Pa., participated in the United Way of the Capital Region’s Day of Caring. Separately, more than 50 employees participated in Miracle Jeans Day, raising $725 for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, gave $300 to Our Lady of Angels Little League team, and participated in the Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce 2016 Corporate Challenge.

Insight CU, Orlando, Fla., renewed its partnership with the City of Inverness Event and Visitors Bureau for the fourth consecutive year. Since 2013, Insight has supported community events in Inverness in an effort to help boost tourism and economic developments within the city, giving $7,500 annually for a total of $30,000 to date, plus the CU has provided volunteers for events.

In Buffalo, N.Y., Buffalo Metropolitan FCU donated school supplies to kids in need for the second straight year. The CU also hosted its 3rd Annual Charity Golf Outing, raising $12,771.85 to benefit Hospice Buffalo.

Members and employees of Dover FCU, Dover, Del., donated school supplies to help students of the Smyrna and Caesar Rodney School District. In addition to the supplies, Dover FCU gave $766 to each school, which was raised through the CU’s employee jeans day program.
