Freedom of Maryland FCU, Bel Air, Md., announced the 12 winners of its 2017 Kids' Art Calendar Contest. Proceeds from the calendar (free to members, with donations requested) will benefit the Greater Excellence in Education Foundation.
The NWFCU Foundation, the charitable arm of Northwest FCU, Herndon, Va., awarded $80,000 in scholarships to 16 students. The Foundation held a lunch at the Chantilly National Golf and Country Club honoring the recipients' achievements.
In Dubuque, Iowa, DuTrac Community CU's Community Action Committee presented Camp Albrecht Acres a check for $6,340. The funds were raised from CU Discount Card sales. Albrecht Acres provides a recreational camping experience for people with special needs.
In celebration of the 65th anniversary of Redstone FCU, Huntsville, Ala., the CU awarded $65,000 in scholarships to 14 member students.
Liberty Lake, Wash.-based Spokane Teachers CU plans to open a new branch in downtown Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. STCU is leasing the former Bank of America branch, which is slated to open in late 2016 or early 2017.
Affinity Plus FCU, St. Paul, Minn., said golfers from across the country gathered at Prestwick Golf Course in Woodbury, Minn., to help raise more than $40,000 for the Affinity Plus Foundation's 15th Annual Golf Tournament.
Arlington Community FCU, Arlington, Va., awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Brook Yimer of Wakefield High School.
Direct FCU, Needham, Mass., awarded $3,000 scholarships to Katelyn d'Entremont and Nathaniel Kay.
In Houston, the Cypress-Fairbanks ISD and Cy-Fair FCU signed a 10-year, $1.5 million deal giving the credit union exclusive naming rights to the stadium located on the campus of the Richard E. Berry Educational Support Center. The funds will support school programs.
Orange County's CU, Santa Ana, Calif., and Williams Data Management made a $1,914 donation to Children's Hospital of Orange County in support of the 26th Annual CHOC Walk.
HFS FCU, Hilo, Hawaii, awarded 5 scholarships of $2,500 each and 3 scholarships of $1,000 each to credit union members pursuing their goals of higher education.
San Diego County CU honored Amy Budde of Morning Creek Elementary School in Poway, Calif., as part of the SDCCU Classroom Heroes program.
Sussex County FCU, Seaford, Del., held shred events at each of its four branch locations throughout the summer. Over the past four years, Sussex County FCU Community Shred Events collected more than 60,000 lbs. of sensitive documents for shredding.
Merck Sharp & Dohme FCU, Chalfont, Pa., raised $10,000 for Bridge of Hope BuxMont at the CU's 18th Annual Charity Golf Outing held at the Mainland Golf Course. Over the past 18 years, the CU's golf outing has generated more than $177,000 for charity.
