Two-ton donation

In Philadelphia, staff and members of American Heritage CU donated more than 2,240 lbs. of food to various charities during the holiday season. Separately, members and employees donated 6,330 new books to local hospitals, community centers and special care facilities.

New service center, new technology

Colorado Springs-based Ent CU opened a new service center in Pueblo West, providing full-service banking convenience to Ent’s more than 19,000 Pueblo, Colo.-area members. The new location uses state-of-the-art technology to offer members added convenience, including self-service safe boxes and Interactive Teller Machines in the outside drive-up lanes.

Meritrust CU, Wichita, Kan., announced a three-year pledge of $324,000 to Wichita State University to help launch Professional Edge, a career-development program and support financial literacy through the Office of Student Money Management.

Helping after the hurricane

Members and employees of State Employees’ CU, Raleigh, N.C., raised more than $21,600 to assist North Carolinians in need after Hurricane Matthew. The funds were provided to the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army, and the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina for distribution in flood-impacted areas.

Annual adopt-a-family

Each year Greater Eastern CU, Jonesborough, Tenn., adopts a family for Christmas. This Christmas GECU was able to gift a family with toys, clothing, coats and shoes for three children. All told, GECU gave $2,600 in household items and Christmas gifts.

AFCU's annual check presentation

America First CU, Riverdale, Utah, gave a total of $80,000 during its annual check presentation event at the America First Innovation Center. The America First Charitable Foundation gave eight organizations $10,000 each to continue efforts to help others.

Employees of Army Aviation Center FCU, Daleville, Ala., donated $1,000 to the Southeast Alabama Chapter of the American Red Cross to support those affected by wildfires in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, Tenn.

Fourth graders win big

The 4th grade class of Alton West Elementary won $500 from GCS CU, Granite City, Ill., to support their community recycling project. The winning entry includes purchasing new recycling bins for the school to help prevent pollution in the community.

Toys for Tots success (again!)

Texas Trust CU, Arlington, Texas, once again was a lead participant in the Mansfield Toys for Tots Toy Drive held at the MISD Center for the Performing Arts. The credit union presented a check for $5,000 and delivered a busload of toys in a restored 1956 Chevrolet school bus.
