Furniture for flood victims

In Lake Jackson, Texas, TDECU’s Kristina Barrow-Booth stepped up to help Brazoria County residents affected by flooding. Many flood victims mentioned lost and damaged furniture, so Kristina worked with the Brazoria County Dream Center, Brazoria County Office of Emergency Management, Seventh Day Adventist Disaster Response, FEMA Corps, United Way and TDECU to put a furniture drive into place.

CUAid assists

Through CUAid and other channels, the National Credit Union Foundation and the Louisiana CU Foundation raised more than $300,000 to help 430 credit union employees affected by the devastating flooding in late August.

American First CU, La Habra, Calif., partnered with Neveah, a 9-year-old girl with a dream to share her books with her community. When you visit the CU, you can participate in the “Take a Book, Return a Book” free book exchange program in the children’s play area.

Backpack heroes

Educational Systems FCU, Greenbelt, Md., donated 7,900 backpacks filled with school supplies to students at 50 middle schools and eight student service centers in eight school systems in Maryland.

Big donors

LBS Financial CU, Long Beach, Calif., spent all summer raising funds to purchase school supplies for three local school districts, and a local law office graciously donated more than 500 binders for the program. LBS also donated $2,000 to Children’s Miracle Network.

Best Adoption-Friendly Workplaces

For the fourth year in a row, America’s Christian CU, Glendora, Calif., was named one of the Best Adoption-Friendly Workplaces by the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. ACCU earned sixth place among companies with 1-100 employees, moving up two places from the previous year, by offering parents a $5,000 adoption grant and six weeks paid leave.
