Five-week food drive

In Seaford, Del., Tidemark FCU, along with its staff and members, held a five-week food drive to gather non-perishable food items for the benefit of St. John’s Food Pantry.

Del-One FCU, Dover, Del., and its Del-One Foundation donated $2,000 to the Alzheimer’s Association of Delaware as part of the CU’s annual Give Back campaign. Separately, employees gathered gloves, hats, scarves, coats and other items to benefit Code Purple Kent County.

Taking donations all year long

Peach State FCU, Lawrenceville, Ga., believes “Hunger doesn’t just happen during the holidays,” and for that reason, the CU collects and donates non-perishable food items year round to benefit local food banks. Members are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to donate when they visit a branch.

Branch renovation

Tysons, Va.-based Pentagon FCU completed renovations on its historic West Point Cadet Branch. In addition to making several aesthetic enhancements, the branch added a financial advisor to its team roster.

First Cap Gives Back

First Capital FCU, York, Pa., presented a check for $500 to Leg Up Farm. The money was raised through the CU’s First Cap Gives Back program, which selects one charity to support each quarter. Staffers sold soft pretzels to members at all branches, and employees paid $5 to wear jeans on specific days. The CU also was presenting sponsor at the Leg Up Farm Fall Fest.

Casual Friday for a cause

Each Friday, team members at Hopewell FCU, Heath, Ohio, are invited to donate $1 to dress in casual attire. Funds collected throughout the year are used to support a worthwhile organization within the community. HFCU selected the American Red Cross of East & South Central Ohio, and gave the organization a check for $700.

Employees of New Horizons CU, Mobile, Ala., raised funds through special jeans days, generating $1,344 for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Mobile and Pensacola.

Dutch Point goes pink

Dutch Point CU, Wethersfield, Conn., sent a team of “Crusaders” to walk in the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in Hartford. Through employee and member contributions, a total of $1,000 was raised to aid in the cancer cure effort.

Warm all winter long

Hanscom FCU, Hanscom AFB, Mass., gathered donations to give 50 children from 24 families new winter clothing. Separately, the CUs annual raffle generated $5,200 for A Bed for Every Child, and the CU matched for a total donation of $10,400. Hanscom donated $1,000 of personal items to the Brockton Camps of the VA Boston Healthcare System. Volunteers from the CU prepared dinner for the guests at Fisher House Boston, which also received a $1,500 grant.

Student-run branch debuts

Hiway FCU, St. Paul, Minn., hosted state and local officials, leadership from Saint Paul Public Schools and administrators from Como Park Senior High School at a celebration of the grand opening of the CU’s student-run Cougars Branch.
