CMN benefit

First Tech FCU, Beaverton, Ore., and Mountain View, Calif., presented the fifth annual Dave and Dan Classic, which raised more than $1.273 million to support Credit Unions for Kids, benefiting six Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in California, Colorado, Oregon and Washington. First Tech employees and members donated more than $100,000 this year.

Robins Financial CU celebrates its 20th branch location

Warner Robins, Ga.-based Robins Financial CU opened its 20th branch location, this one in Dublin, Ga., in Laurens County. The new, full-service location includes a 24-hour ATM, drive thru, deposit and loan services, mortgage services, and business services.

First-ever scholarship dinner

Wauna CU, Astoria, Ore., hosted its first Annual Scholarship Dinner to fete the 2017 Wauna CU Scholarship recipients. The CU awarded $7,500 to 10 students entering or continuing college. The 50-year-old credit union has awarded scholarships to local student members for many years, but meeting them and their parents at a celebratory event made everyone beam.

Redwood shreds

Redwood CU, Santa Rosa, Calif., hosted a free shredding event. Some 500 local residents brought old financial documents and other confidential paperwork to be shredded by Shred-IT. More than 7 tons of documents were securely destroyed and recycled at the event. Shred-IT provided RCU with an environmental impact certificate stating that the event helped save 120 trees, 29,001 Kw/Hrs of electricity, 2,827 reams of paper and 49,459 gallons of water.

Suffolk FCU gives back

Suffolk FCU, Medford, N.Y., donated $500 each to Paws of War and Fountainhead Congregation. Separately, Suffolk Federal awarded $1,500 college scholarships to 10 local high-school seniors. One student received an additional $2,500 scholarship provided by the LT Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation, which was matched by Suffolk Federal, along with a $1,000 scholarship provided by the New York CU Association.

Scholarships awarded

In Plymouth, Minn., TruStone Financial FCU and its TruStone Financial Foundation awarded $12,000 in scholarships to nine high school graduates. All scholarship recipients are members of TruStone Financial and will be pursuing secondary education in the fall.

America’s Christian CU, Glendora, Calif., awarded scholarships to five recipients, including $500 to Mattea Davis, who is studying at Humboldt State University in California.

Play ball!

Carson City, Nev.-based Greater Nevada CU hosted a free meet and greet with Reno Aces baseball players at its south Reno branch. Players signed autographs and took photos with fans and community members. GNCU is the title sponsor of Greater Nevada Field, home of the Reno Aces, the Triple-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Outstanding scholarship applicants

Andrews FCU concluded its 2017 Scholarship Program at its 69th Annual Meeting held at its headquarters in Suitland, Md. The quality of this year’s submissions were so good, the credit union awarded an additional scholarship, totaling 11 for $16,500.

Consumers CU, Waukegan, Ill., hosted a highly successful internship program this summer. A total of nine paid interns had the opportunity to learn about the financial services industry. Participants in the program worked in different areas of the CU based on their career goals.

Coming soon: 29th location

Colorado Springs-based Ent CU celebrated the groundbreaking on what will become its second service center location in Castle Rock, Colo., adjacent to the Outlets at Castle Rock. The new Promenade Service Center will be Ent’s 29th location.
