Aberdeen Proving Ground FCU, Aberdeen, Md., exceeded the $1 billion mark in total loans, less than 3 years after reaching $1 billion in total assets. To say, “Thanks for a Billion in Loans,” APGFCU provided complimentary soft-serve ice cream, sundaes and milkshakes, and cookie treats, to members at its branches.
CMN donation
Robins Financial CU, Warner Robins, Ga., made a $30,000 donation to the Children’s Miracle Network after a month of fundraisers. All branches hosted bake sales and raffles, and the CU held a social media contest in which $1 was donated for each new subscriber on the Robins Financial YouTube channel.
Unitus gives back
Unitus Community CU, Portland, Ore., sponsored professional women mentors who accompanied their Princesses to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital to make blankets for patients, then led a financial workshop to teach the Princesses valuable financial life skills. Separately, Unitus’ Dream Come True program gave children with serious illnesses a chance to become part of the Oregon State Beavers football team and coaching staff.
Free gas
Team members of Baton Rouge, La.-based Pelican State CU gave away $20 in free gas to the first 200 cars to visit Popingo’s on Perkins Road in Prairieville, La.
Top workplace
Louisiana FCU, Laplace, La., was awarded a 2017 Top Workplaces honor by The Times-Picayune.
NEFCU's STEM scholarships
New England FCU, Williston, Vt., awarded three scholarships of $3,000 each to the winners of its 2017 Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Scholarships.

Helping survivors of domestic violence
In Newport News, Va., Langley FCU’s Langley for Families Foundation donated $10,000 to Transitions Family Violence Services. The funds will be used to provide emergency shelter, services and programs for victims of domestic violence.
New HQ wins award
Lakeland CU, Bonnyville, Alberta, Canada, and design-build firm NewGround won the Achievement in Marketing Excellence award from the Marketing Association of Credit Unions for the design of the CU’s new headquarters and branch.

Scholarships and grants for education
Municipal CU, New York City, awarded $66,000 in scholarships to college-bound high school seniors: eight memorial scholarship grants of $5,000 each and 13 grants of $2,000 each.

Financial Plus CU, Flint, Mich., awarded $1,000 each to the two winners of the CU’s second annual “You are the Future” Scholarship. The winners were selected based on academics and community involvement.
