Eagle Community stamps out hunger

Eagle Community CU, Lake Forest, Calif., supported the 25th annual National Association of Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. This was the ninth year the CU sponsored food bags for mail carriers to distribute in the local Santa Ana Postal District.

Times Square takes notice

Polish & Slavic FCU, Brooklyn, awarded $400,000 in scholarships to 339 members. The news reached New York's Times Square. This marks the 17th consecutive year of PSFCU’s annual Scholarship Program, which has awarded $4 million in scholarships to nearly 3,500 members.

Robins Financial CU, Warner Robins, Ga., gave a corporate donation in support of the Rescue Mission of Middle Georgia, which provides residential shelter and meals to those in need.

Sioux Falls FCU, Sioux Falls, S.D., celebrated the opening of its sixth branch with a week-long celebration that included collecting food and monetary donations for Feeding South Dakota. The CU donated $6,000, which will provide 24,000 meals to those in need.

Navy's 300th branch

Vienna, Va.-based Navy FCU held a grand opening ceremony for its 300th branch, located in Fredericksburg, Va. The new facility is a modern branch, featuring Navy Federal’s latest technology, a drive-thru teller and full service ATMs.

First Capital FCU, York, Pa., treated those in its youth programs to a free baseball game at the local ballpark. Young members were given tickets to thank them for their membership, and parents and friends could purchase additional tickets for $15 each. The event drew 100 people.

Numerica CU, Spokane Valley, Wash., donated $95,000 to five local nonprofits. The donation comes from Numerica’s Skip-A-Pay program, in which members can skip a month of payments by making a $20 donation.

Army Aviation Center FCU, Daleville, Ala., awarded $4,000 in scholarships at Troy University’s orientation for new students. AACFCU held a drawing for a $500 scholarship at each parent information session. One parent or guardian for each student was allowed to enter.

Random acts of kindness

Great Lakes CU, Bannockburn, Ill., continued its Random Acts of Kindness program in seven locations this summer, including: Crystal Lake employees visiting Kaleidoscopes Ice Cream, Sports & Gifts and surprising customers by paying for their orders (pictured), Zion branch employees handing out $5 coupons for the Brat Shop, and Naperville employees donating clothes, kitchen utensils, shampoo and more to the Second Chance Resale Shop.

BECU's scholars

In Tukwila, Wash., the BECU Foundation awarded 80 BECU student members with $3,000 scholarships. The scholarships recognize and promote a student’s service in their school or community, leadership potential, and academic achievement. Since the foundation’s inception in 1995, BECU has given more than $2 million in scholarships to more than 900 student members.

Food bank donation

San Antonio-based Air Force FCU donated $3,000 to the San Antonio Food Bank in support of the food bank’s Million Summer Meals for Kids food drive. The money was raised through various fundraising events, including a special “Jeans Day” program at the credit union.

Awards of distinction for CA/NV league

The California and Nevada CU Leagues were a double winner at the 23rd Annual Communicator Awards. The Leagues received an Award of Distinction in the Integrated Campaign category for the marketing campaign for the annual meeting and convention, known as REACH, and another Award of Distinction for the Leagues’ newly revamped website.
