Robins Financial saves lives

The American Red Cross collected 18 pints of blood from Robins Financial CU employees, members and members of the community in a blood drive at Warner Robins, Ga. Each unit of blood has the ability to save up to three lives, so this drive has the potential to save 54 lives.

Car show benefits cats and dogs

Hopewell FCU, Newark, Ohio, held its seventh annual Car Show. Proceeds from the event, totaling $2,250, were presented to the Licking County Humane Society.

TopLine hits the books

TopLine FCU, Maple Grove, Minn., sent thousands of books to further the educational opportunities of Nigerian students through a local partnership with the Africa Education and Health Initiative. A month-long book drive collected more than 3,200 educational books. TopLine also used a lawn bowling event to raise $17,000 for scholarships.

CU in the chemistry lab

St. Anne’s CU, Fall River, Mass., donated $30,000 to Bishop Connolly High School for the school’s chemistry and biotech labs – allowing Connolly to make enhancements to lab spaces and learning resources. The CU donated $500 to the Boys and Girls Club of Fall River, and it sponsored the United Way of Greater Fall River’s Neighborhoods Live United Chalk the Block.

RTN's scholarships

RTN Federal Credit Union, Waltham, Mass., announced the 2017 recipients of its James A. Burley, Jr. Scholarship Awards. The scholarship awards totaling $10,000 ($5,000, $3,000 and $2,000) are presented annually to three college-bound students whose parents are members.

Northwest continues celebration of giving back

Northwest FCU, Herndon, Va., made one of its largest donations, benefitting six local charities as part of its 70 Acts of We, celebrating 70 years of service to the community. As its 13th Act of We, the CU donated $2,324 each to Appalachian Trail Conservancy, Arts Herndon, Audubon Society of Northern Virginia, Cornerstones and the NWFCU Foundation. The donations reflect $70 for each member who financed a new home loan through the CU over four months.

Helping at-risk kids

Great Lakes CU, Bannockburn, Ill., donated $250 to Tru Vision Productions, a non-profit that provides programs for at-risk kids ages 12 to 18 in communities throughout Chicago and the South Suburbs.

In Dubuque, Iowa, DuTrac Community CU, through its Savasaurus Club for youth, donated 655 pairs of shoes to help a local middle school raise funds for an educational school trip.
