No business like snow business

City & County CU, St. Paul, Minn., embraced Minnesota’s cold winter by sponsoring Snow Park at the Fair, a free, family event that featured a giant snow slide, snow sculptures and a snow maze. Nine City & County employees sported pink tutus and jumped into freezing water for the Snow Park Polar Plunge, raising more than $1,000 for Special Olympics MN.

Best of the best (Germany edition)

Andrews FCU, Suitland, Md., was named the Best Bank/Credit Union in the 2017 Stars & Stripes Best of Germany Awards, Rhein Main Area, Service and Leisure Category. The win marks the fourth year in a row the $1.4 billion credit union has achieved this distinction.

Job Shadow Day

JetStream FCU, Miami Lakes, Fla., participated in the annual Job Shadow Day with Miami Dade County Public Schools. Students went to JetStream’s headquarters and were given an introduction to credit unions and how they operate.

Casual for a Cause

People's CU, Middletown, R.I., raised $548 for Boys Town New England as a result of a monthly employee dress down day, called Casual for a Cause, plus a painted glassware raffle.

Helping hands

When employees of Fort Washington, Pa.-based TruMark Financial CU met for its annual meeting, not only did they get an update on the credit union’s 2017 strategic plan, they constructed prosthetic hands that are needed by thousands of amputees around the world. Separately, TruMark donated $5,300 to Our Lady of Calvary School.

Ribbon cutting

Financial Partners CU, Woodburn, Ind., held a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house for its branch relocation in Grabill, Ind. The new building will allow the CU room for future expansion. La Macchia Group designed the building to provide an easy flow for employees and members.

Code Purple

Dover FCU, Dover, Del., collected winter clothing and monetary donations for Milford, Del.’s Community Center Code Purple program. CU members and employees contributed a truck full of clothing and $1,492.

Recognizing a positive impact

In Michigan, the Battle Creek Chapter of CUs hosted an evening event to recognize and honor local non-profit organizations that have made a positive impact. Talons Out Honor Flight was one of the organizations honored that evening, and it was given $1,500 to use toward helping veterans in Southwest Michigan fly to Washington D.C. to visit the WW II Memorial.

Student veteran scholarships

Eagle Community CU, Lake Forest, Calif., awarded scholarships of $500 each to four student veterans attending Irvine Valley College. This was the first time the CU has offered this scholarship. Most of the funds were donated by credit union members.
