Redwood makes an impact

Redwood CU, Santa Rosa, Calif., received the Gold Impact award for marketing from CUSO Financial Services and Sorrento Pacific Financial for RCU’s monthly digital investment newsletter campaign. In 2016 RCU won a Gold Impact award for its geo-targeted marketing. Separately, RCU’s annual shred event drew more than 2,000 people, a 16 percent increase.

Helping fund a new library

Valley FCU, Billings, Mont., donated $8,000 to fund a new library for Explorers Academy, a head start program that provides comprehensive services for young children from low-income families to achieve school readiness and lifelong success. The CU also is collecting books.

Golfing for a good cause

The Richard Myles Johnson Foundation/CU Direct Golf Tournament, which was held at the Monarch Beach Resort in Dana Point, Calif., raised more than $50,000 for the state foundation for credit unions in California and Nevada.

Oregon State shreds and shares

Oregon State CU, Corvallis, Ore., held three free Community Shred Days. There were 57,743 lbs. of sensitive documents disposed of, saving 476 trees, 196,000 gallons of water, 92 cubic yards of landfill and more than 2,200 gallons of oil. In addition, the CU took in 1,837 lbs. of food and another $1,100 in cash donations for two local Food Shares, with the CU matching the first $700.

Clothing drive a success

Landings CU, Tempe, Ariz., said its eighth annual Clothing Drive was a huge success. The CU donated 225 uniform pieces, including shirts, skirts, and dresses, to the Connecting With Kids program using funds collected from the drive. CWK is a service center that provides everyday essentials and school supplies to students in the Tempe Elementary School District.

Back-to-school supply drive success

The teens of the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Lowell began the school year with fully stocked backpacks thanks to hundreds of generous donations from the members and employees of Jeanne D’Arc CU, Lowell, Mass. The CU held a company-wide school supply drive.

YMCA donation

St. Anne’s CU, Fall River, Mass., donated $2,500 to the Dartmouth Branch of YMCA SouthCoast. The donation was in conjunction with the grand reopening of St. Anne’s newly relocated Dartmouth branch. Via a Facebook campaign, the CU donated $1 for every “like” and “share” the post received.

A hot lunch and a friendly face

Every week, a pair of employees from U.S. Eagle FCU, Albuquerque, N.M., deliver meals to local residents in partnership with Meals on Wheels of Albuquerque. Separately, the CU’s Santa Fe branch helped Adelante Development Center and the Kiwanis Aktion Club fill backpacks with school supplies for local children.

Top NYIB honors for SECU

State Employees’ CU, Raleigh, N.C., brought home two top honors from the National Youth Involvement Board Conference. Continuing a seven-year winning tradition, SECU received first place team awards for the Highest Number of Students Reached by a Team (66,561) and the Highest Number of Presentations Given (707).

Pelican State CU, Baton Rouge, La., gave away 309 free washes at locally owned and operated Speedy Pete’s Car Wash in Alexandria, La. Credit union membership was not required and no purchase was necessary to receive the free car wash.

The South Carolina Board of Education recognized Greenville FCU, Greenville, S.C., as the 2017 Business Volunteer of the Year for the launch of its student-run credit union branch inside Greenville High School during the 2016-2017 school year.

Employees of Kinecta FCU, Manhattan Beach, Calif., filled backpacks with back-to-school items for underprivileged Watts elementary school students. More than 500 backpacks were distributed to children in the community during the eighth annual Kinecta and Nix Backpack Distribution Day.

Wisconsin’s Teachers of the Year were honored at Miller Park during the finale of Educator Days with the Milwaukee Brewers. Each teacher threw out a first pitch to an athlete representing his/her school. Educators CU, Racine, Wis., helped sponsor the ceremony.
