Making dreams come true
Virginia Beach, Va.-based Chartway FCU’s We Promise Foundation raised $526,900 during its 11th Annual Diamonds in the Sky Gala to make dreams come true for children in its communities who are battling life-threatening illnesses.
Naming rights
Del-One FCU, Dover, Del., contributed $500,000 to Delaware Technical Community College for naming rights to the conference center at the Terry Campus in Dover.
Expanding footprint
Anchorage-based Alaska USA FCU opened a new branch in Wasilla for a total of four branches in the Mat-Su Valley and 36 branches statewide.
A student-run success story
Royal CU, Eau Claire, Wis., hosted a ribbon cutting and grand reopening celebration at its newly remodeled North High School student-run office. The high school branch has been operating since 2005, and has employed 33 students over the years.
Marking major milestones
In Oklahoma City, WEOKIE CU’s Money Talks financial literacy program hit a milestone by presenting to its 50,000th student since 2007. Tabatha Thurman, financial education specialist, was recognized by the National Youth Involvement Board as the U.S. CU employee with highest number of students reached (10,948) and presentations given (384) in a school year.
Vantage members 'Dream Big'
Vantage CU, Bridgeton, Mo., awarded $1,000 toward the purchase of a new computer to Ben Shepherd and Nathanial Marsters, both winners of the CU's third Dream Big contest.
Walk for a cause
Staff from Vermont FCU, Burlington, Vt., raised $1,000 and volunteered at the Great Strides Walk to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
The Zero Mile Fun Run
Employees of GCS Credit Union, Granite City, Ill., raised $1,000 in one month to benefit the National Parkinson Foundation by donating to the local Zero Mile Fun Run.
The Jimmy Fund Walk
Several employees from Fall River, Mass.-based St. Anne’s CU’s New Bedford branch took part in the 2016 Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk. They raised more than $4,000 for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Honoring Hispanic achievement
Montgomery County Employees FCU, Germantown, Md., is supporting the Maryland Hispanic Achievement Scholarship program. Two area students were direct beneficiaries of MC EFCU scholarships, which were awarded at the County Executive’s Hispanic Gala.
Capitol Hill visits
Representatives from First Commonwealth FCU, Bethlehem, Pa., visited Capitol Hill and met with seven congressional representatives or their staff to discuss issues vital to members.
The branch of the future
GTE Financial FCU, Tampa, Fla., broke ground on an innovative, next-generation financial center in St. Petersburg. The new center will be equipped with the latest cutting-edge banking technology, including OnScreen ITMs and more.

American Heritage FCU, Philadelphia, received the Gold Award from Greater Valley Forge Transportation. GVF works with partners to develop programs and initiatives that help reduce congestion and improve air quality.
