Making magic for members

St. Petersburg, Fla.-based PSCU hosted is fifth annual Credit Union Magic Minute. The program was developed to help member-owner credit unions build even tighter relationships with members. Eight teams – including one running on behalf of charity – won an all-expenses-paid trip to Chicago, along with an average of $5,000 in shopping spree prizes.

Municipal expands

New York City-based Municipal CU expanded its footprint in Queens, cutting the ribbon on its new St. Albans branch. The branch is MCU’s third branch in Queens and 18th overall.

Northwest gives back

NWFCU Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Northwest FCU, Herndon, Va., held a week of giving back to the community. Volunteers cleaned up a local community shelter’s storage facility, provided a surprise party for children at an outreach center and presented a budgeting workshop to low-income families.

Making the job search easier

San Antonio-based Security Service FCU and its Charitable Foundation partnered with Dress for Success Corpus Christi to help disadvantaged women re-enter the workforce with a $5,000 donation that will fund computer stations for job searches as well as classroom equipment for career readiness presentations.

Del-One makes a difference

In Dover, Del., Del-One FCU’s Del-One Foundation continued its yearly Give Back campaign by donating $9,000 to Kay’s Kamp, a local camp for children who either are currently battling cancer or are in remission, and $2,000 to Sussex Community Crisis Housing Services.

Saying 'thanks'

San Diego-based North Island CU held a month-long member appreciation campaign, in which North Island expressed its appreciation to members through celebrations in each of its branches. The campaign culminated in a $5,000 donation to the California Association of Food Banks.

More than 30 employees from 15 credit unions in Orange, San Bernardino and Los Angeles counties in California – as well as representatives from affiliated companies – came together to help others in a special “Credit Union Day of Service.”

Jax lights the night

Employees of Jax FCU, Jacksonville, Fla., participated in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light the Night Walk at EverBank Field. They raised more than $1,300 to support lifesaving treatments. While there, the team also celebrated the recovery of a co-worker's spouse.

Jose Gonzalez, member of Altura CU, Riverside, Calif., was the third winner in the credit union’s “Visit Your Dream Destination” giveaway. As part of a celebration of Altura’s 60th anniversary, the CU thanked its members by giving away four dream vacations.

The Battle Creek Chapter of CUs recognized local nonprofit organizations that have made a positive impact. The Food Bank of South Central Michigan was one of those honored. The chapter donated $2,000 to help members of the communities FBSCM serves be food secure.

Lowell, Mass.-based Align CU awarded the $3,000 grand prize from its Wilmington branch’s Win Car Payments for a Year Contest to Brian McQuinn. The contest was part of the branch’s grand opening celebration. McQuinn was selected randomly from all eligible entries.

Advantage One CU, Brownstown, Mich., supported the Brownstown Animal Shelter by co-hosting a Pallets for Paws painting party. The event raised nearly $700 for the animal shelter.
