Run for kids
Dan O’Brien, a solution architect with USALLIANCE Financial CU, Rye, N.Y., and a member of the Credit Unions Kids at Heart team, completed the 2017 Boston Marathon in 3 hours, 54 minutes and 7 seconds. Dan ran on behalf of his two patient partners, Matt Bridges and Kayla Biagiotti, and raised $15,000 for Boston Children’s Hospital.
St. Cloud's 'ChangeMakers'
St. Cloud FCU, St. Cloud, Minn., is in the second year of its community recognition program, ChangeMakers: Giving back to those who make a difference. This partnership with St. Cloud Times Media is intended to highlight people who may get little recognition while doing great things in the community.
Annex building
Hoosier Hills CU has plenty of reason to be celebrating with the completion of the new annex building addition at its Bedford, Ind., headquarters site, as well as growth that puts the CU at more than $500 million in assets.
Remembering the Vietnam War
Service CU, Portsmouth, N.H., sponsored the exhibition of the Moving Wall, a half-sized replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, at the Durham campus of the University of New Hampshire as part of the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the war.
Texas Trust gives scholarship
Texas Trust CU, Arlington, Texas, awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Grand Prairie ISD student Jemiah Williams. Williams, a senior at Dubiski Career HS, has been accepted at Howard University in Washington, D.C., where she plans to study business with an emphasis on foreign policy and social issues.
Nebraska expansion continues
Veridian CU opened its new branch in Papillion, Neb. The facility is Veridian’s third of 10 to 15 branches planned for the greater Omaha area over the next 10 years. The Waterloo, Iowa-based CU opened in Council Bluffs, Iowa, last spring, then opened its first branch outside of Iowa in Omaha, Neb., in December.
Budgeting simulation
FreeStar Financial CU, Clinton Township, Mich., visited Warren Mott High School to host a budgeting simulation for high school students called Mad City Money.
Boosting seniors' tech skills
Navigant CU, Smithfield, R.I., donated $1,500 to the Cumberland Senior Center for the purchase of new computers. The computers will give the senior citizens who visit the center the opportunity to try and experience new technology.

The People's Trust Promise
Houston-based People’s Trust, formerly Shell Employees FCU, revamped its Employee Credit Program with a new name: The People’s Trust Promise. The CU’s employees are promising to take 2,500 actions in 2017 by boosting their involvement in the established initiatives of Advocacy, Community, Wellness and Education.

First Capital FCU, York, Pa., received the Outstanding Community Investor award from the Manufacturers' Association, a regional trade association serving manufacturing, production and logistics in Pennsylvania and Maryland.
On-the-job training
JetStream FCU, Miami Lakes, Fla., once again partnered with the Center for Financial Training and Miami Dade College for their On-the-Job training program.
