Municipal's Milestone: Credit Unions in the Community

Municipal
Municipal CU, New York City, is celebrating its centennial all year long. The credit union was chartered Jan. 1, 1917, which it marked with a gala that featured officials from CUNA and the New York CU Association.
Andrews
Andrews FCU sponsored the Charles County Chamber of Commerce Network at Noon luncheon. The CU also hosted a Shred Day at its headquarters in Suitland, Md. A total of 3.7 tons were shredded, saving seven barrels of oil, nearly 63 trees and almost 26,000 gallons of water.
LAFCU
The huge, blue letters representing LAFCU, Lansing, Mich., continue to make their mark, winning the coveted Gold Award for Image Enhancement at the 2016 MAC Awards, presented by the Marketing Association of Credit Unions.
Bar-Cons
Bar-Cons FCU, Columbus, Ind., awarded the annual Judy M James Memorial Scholarship to Madison Albright, a senior at Columbus East High School.
Black Hills
Black Hills FCU, Rapid City, S.D., celebrated the opening of its new, full-service member service center in Sturgis with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Firefighters First
The Fire Family Foundation, the charitable hand of Los Angeles-based Firefighters First CU, in partnership with Lucas Oil, sponsored the first annual Fire Ball, which netted $37,000. Dylan Johnston, whose father was a firefighter who died of cancer, was given $5,000 toward college.
Firefly
Firefly CU, Burnsville, Minn., sponsored the 7th annual Why I Love Burnsville essay contest. Firefly awarded $50 each to the three contest winners and to their respective teachers to help aid in providing classroom supplies.
Alaska USA
In Anchorage, the Alaska USA Foundation donated $20,000 to the Childrens Lunchbox to aid in its mission to provide nutritious meals to at-risk children in safe community settings. Separately, the CU donated $5,000 to sponsor five high school students to attend Washington Business Week.
USALLIANCE
USALLIANCE Financial FCU, Rye, N.Y., gifted Go-Pros to all of its employees as a thank you for all the work they do. The CU wants employees to carry out its mantra and film themselves living life fully. The videos will be shared both internally and on social media.
Suffolk
Suffolk FCU, Medford, N.Y., presented $1,500 scholarships to 11 local high school seniors. One student, Alexis Groark, received an additional $2,500 scholarship provided by the LT Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation, which was matched by Suffolk Federal along with a $1,000 scholarship provided by the New York CU Association.
Rivermark
Rivermark Community CU, Beaverton, Ore., made an initial grant of $100,000 to establish the Rivermark Community Fund in partnership with the Oregon Community Foundation, which will provide grants to non-profit organizations that support small businesses with ready access to capital.
Guardians
Guardians CU, West Palm Beach, Fla., participated in the Strike Out Alzheimer's Event, raising $400 for the Alzheimer's Association, donated funds to purchase two Little Free Libraries in Lake Worth, Fla., and participated in the inaugural Run with the Cops 5K benefitting the West Palm Beach Police Foundation.
Bethpage
Bethpage FCU, Bethpage, N.Y., said 2016 was a record-breaking year for attendance at the Bethpage Air Show at Jones Beach. More than 453,000 people attended during the span of three days.
Army Aviation
Employees of Daleville, Ala.-based Army Aviation Center FCU, along with their family members, volunteered to serve lunch at the Dothan Rescue Mission.
Mutual 1st
Mutual 1st FCU, Omaha, Neb., announced one of its members was the lucky winner of a quarterly Save to Win prize of $500.
