Warm soles and warmer souls

Weber State CU, Ogden, Utah, continued its 14-year tradition of providing shoes to kindergarteners at local elementary schools, and expanded it to include two more schools. Donations for the Warm the Soles program come from WSCU members who participate in the Skip-a-Payment promotion, as well as community donations through the WSCU Foundation.

Anchorage-based Alaska USA FCU built its new, state-of-the-art Operations Center in Glendale, Ariz. The two-story, 185,000-square-foot building will serve as the credit union’s new distributed operation center – supporting Alaska USA’s continued growth and investment in all the communities it serves.

San Diego County CU, which earned two Guinness World Record titles for shredding last June, held its latest free Shred Day Event at three locations. The day resulted in a total of 24,253 lbs. of paper collected and shredded.

CFE helps with hurricane relief

Volunteers from Lake Mary, Fla.-based CFE Federal Credit Union and Seminole State College of Florida joined forces at Feeding Children Everywhere. The 50 volunteers packaged 10,080 jambalaya casserole meals for families who relocated to Seminole County from Puerto Rico after the devastation of Hurricane Maria.

NCUA grant for financial education

Peach State FCU, Lawrenceville, Ga., received a $22,250 grant from NCUA for the CU’s Roadmap to Financially Fit Communities program. The grant will support the CU’s endeavors to help people in lower income communities have a better understanding of personal finance.

Grants awarded

American Eagle Financial CU, East Hartford, Conn., awarded grants of $5,000 each to the Connecticut Association of Human Services, Dress for Success Hartford, Gifts of Love & Community Farm of Simsbury, and the Urban League of Greater Hartford, thanks to a partnership and donor-advised fund managed by the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving.

Relocating for better member service

To provide an enhanced experience for its members, Farmington Hills, Mich.-based Community Choice CU relocated its Royal Oak Member Center. The newly built location is the latest in a series of open layout member centers completed by the CU in Livonia, Milford, Northville and Shelby Township. The design eliminates traditional teller lines to promote conversations.

First Capital 'Lives United'

First Capital FCU, York, Pa., presented a check for $1,010 to the United Way of York County. The money was raised through the CU’s First Cap Gives Back program, which selects one charity to support each quarter. Staffers sold soft pretzels to members at all branches, and employees paid $5 to wear jeans on specific days. In addition to the $1,010, First Capital employees pledged $4,868 for the United Way’s annual campaign, for a total of $5,878.
