UW CU at Forefront of Minimum Wage Debate

We are a small credit union ($55 million, staff of 16) and are in the process of approving our entry level of $13 raised to $15 per hour. As CEO I see this as a benefit for us based on the many of the same reasons Mr. Kunderk spoke of. Seems like it’s the right and smart thing to do. I believe in it so much that I have offered to forgo my salary increases for this year and next year if we will implement by Jan 1. dee@dallascu.org | July 01 2016 at 3:08PM ET

CFPB Staff Inappropriately Reimbursed for Personal Expenses: Watchdog

Just more evidence that the arrogant CFPB is more “do as we say rather than as we do.”JustAPlayer | June 30 2016 at 6:16PM ET

CUNA Introducing Awareness Initiative At ACUC Tuesday

A good start. Consumers don’t know what a credit union is, don’t know they are eligible to join and don’t believe we have the technology or sophisticated services they need for a complete relationship.schaeferm | June 28 2016 at 1:44PM ET

More on CUNA Introducing Awareness Initiative At ACUC Tuesday

In Northern New Mexico we created a Keep It Co-Op campaign three years ago. Every CU in Northern N.M. and every co-op (grocery, beer, pre-school) work together to educate the public about the cooperative difference. With the exception of two credit unions (very small) they all are part of the shared branch network as well. The Keep It Co-Op Campaign was a perfect vehicle to share the real difference between banks - allowing each other’s members to conduct transactions in their branches. Shared branching has always felt like a “no-brainer” national campaign. Can you imagine if every CU in America were joined together by that system? deniseewymore | June 28 2016 at 9:05AM ET

CU Trade Groups Split on Hensarling's Call to Expand NCUA Board

The proposal to expand the NCUA Board to five members rather than the current three is a good one. As it stands now, two board members can’t have a conversation (let alone lunch) when a business matter arises without declaring a formal board meeting, with required notice and the general counsel in attendance, since a quorum of the board would be present. Other than at board meetings, communication between board members must be conducted through staff instead of face-to-face, making discussion and relationships awkward and difficult. Having a five-person board instead of three would improve communication and allow broader discussion of issues. In addition, the chances of NCUA having to operate with two, or possibly even only one board member would be reduced. Enhancing policy consideration is worth the relatively modest personnel cost and I think they could find appropriate office space.CUVet | June 16 2016 at 5:58PM ET
