In Anchorage, Alaska USA FCU’s Foundation donated $42,500 to support six Alaska nonprofits: Girl Scouts of Alaska, American Diabetes Association, Special Olympics of Alaska, Children’s Lunchbox, Together, and Boys & Girls Clubs of Alaska (seen here).

American Heritage gives back

Philadelphia-based American Heritage CU donated $2,500 to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office to invest in new equipment for deputies. Separately, more than 15,000 people attended AHCU’s annual Grand Illumination event, where one lucky member won a $5,000 vacation getaway to culminate AHCU’s year-long “We’ve Got Your Best Interest at Heart” Sweepstakes. The CU celebrated the opening of its new branch in Pottstown, formerly an Apex FCU branch.

VCU feeds the neighbors

Vermont FCU, Burlington, Vt., was the presenting sponsor of the Feed Your Neighbor Food Drive to benefit the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf. This year’s drive raised 5,130 lbs. of food and $610 in cash, equating to 1,830 additional lbs. of food for a total of 6,960 lbs. donated. This was an increase of 650 lbs. from the previous year’s event.

Peach State promotes science education

Peach State FCU, Lawrenceville, Ga., made a $50,000 donation to Piedmont College benefitting the Dr. Robert H. Wainberg Natural Sciences Research Fund. The endowment will support research for Piedmont College students majoring in natural sciences, including biology, chemistry and environmental science.

Wisconsin Forward Award Gala 2017

Royal recognized

Royal CU, Eau Claire, Wis., received Wisconsin Forward Award Challenger recognition from the Wisconsin Center for Performance Excellence. The award uses the Baldrige Excellence Framework of the national Baldrige Performance Excellence Program as its evaluation tool.

RTN Federal Credit Union, Waltham, Mass., hosted 30 guests and sponsored an information table at the Worcester Railers vs. Manchester Monarchs minor league hockey game. Attendees included representatives from RTN SEGs and community organizations, including Olympus, UMass Cancer Walk & Run, Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in Worcester, Jewish Family and Children’s Service, and Vincent Perrone, CEO of Veterans Inc.

Donations go up for every down

As the preferred credit union of the Boise State Broncos, Mountain America CU, West Jordan, Utah, committed to donate $50 to a charity for every first down converted by the Broncos during the 2017 football season: 400-plus first downs meant MACU gave $21,000 to St. Luke’s Health Foundation. Separately, MACU announced the winners for the fifth annual Kurt Bestor High School Choir Scholarship Contest: $1,500 to the winning school, $500 each to 2nd thru 4th.
