Royal rocks the riverfront
In Eau Claire, Wis., the Royal CU Foundation raised more than $27,000 for three of its partner charities at the 2017 Rock the Riverfront. The event featured nearly 500 runners/walkers and hundreds more who enjoyed games, activities and food trucks.
Space Coast's scholarship winner
Space Coast CU Melbourne, Fla., named Eliza Budanio the $2,003 grand prize winner of its “ThumbuddyCares: Don’t Text and Drive” scholarship contest.
Los Angeles FCU awards $9,000
Los Angeles FCU, Glendale, Calif., honored the winners of the 2017 Jack C. Mathews College Scholarship competition. Nine high school and college students pursuing higher education in the fall each received $1,000 scholarship grants.
Pursuing academic dreams -- with less debt
In Manchester, N.H., St. Mary’s Bank helped 10 members pursue academic dreams while reducing their need for student loan debt by awarding $7,500 in scholarships.
WSECU supports state parks
Washington State Employees CU, Olympia, Wash., and the MHRV Show Association made a joint donation of $23,544 to Washington State Parks. MHRV Show Association produces the Seattle and Puyallup RV shows. For the past five years, WSECU has been the shows’ presenting sponsor. Each organization donated $1 for every regularly priced ticket sold.
iPad donation
Dow Chemical Employees’ CU, Midland, Mich., donated 35 factory-reset iPad mobile digital devices – many of them only very gently used – to CAN Council Great Lakes Bay Region, a nonprofit organization that offers prevention education, intervention, advocacy programs and services for children and families in both Saginaw and Bay counties.
Genisys jeans day
Genisys CU, Auburn Hills, Mich., held a special Jeans Day to collect donations for Leader Dogs for the Blind. Staff wore casual work attire for one day in exchange for a donation. A total of $1,000 was collected by staff members from across the organization.
SECU says 'Welcome home'
State Employees’ CU, Raleigh, N.C., held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the phase-one opening of 16 SECU Lakeside Reserve apartments in Wilmington. The two-phase supportive housing development is designed for homeless citizens with disabilities. The SECU Foundation made a $1 million grant to help several Wilmington non-profits complete construction.
Merrimack awards scholarships to six
Merrimack Valley CU, Lawrence, Mass., awarded $9,000 to six graduating seniors. Each of the recipients was surprised with the $1,500 award at his/her respective high school’s senior scholarship event.
JetStream's 'Future Bankers'
JetStream FCU, Miami Lakes, Fla., once again partnered with the Center for Financial Training and Miami Dade College for the annual Future Bankers’ Camp Program. The program provides a hands-on experience for high school students interested in careers in the financial industry.
Honor Court induction
Greater Nevada CU, Carson City, Nev., was inducted into the Honor Court at the University of Nevada, Reno. Situated on campus in a park-like setting, the Honor Court features the names of major donors, award-winning faculty, students, employees and community members who have contributed to the university's history and success.
Diamond scholars
Diamond CU, Pottstown, Pa., awarded the Alfred A. Panfile Memorial Scholarship to five students from local schools. The winning students were selected for giving back to their community through volunteerism, teamwork and spreading goodwill.
Andrews FCU honored
Andrews FCU, Suitland, Md., received the America Saves Designation of Savings Excellence for Credit Unions. Separately, Andrews won two Trailblazers Awards from the MD|DC Credit Union Association for outstanding work in marketing materials and member communications.
