The more than 220 employees of Bay FCU, Capitola, Calif., continued their streak of 100 percent community support every year since 2002. In 2017, every credit union employee donated his or her own money and/or volunteered to support numerous non-profit organizations and community events.

More than a million meals
San Antonio-based Security Service FCU, in partnership with the San Antonio Food Bank and neighbors across San Antonio, helped collect 2.4 million pounds of food for local families as part of the annual Food4SA campaign. This equates to 1.6 million meals.

Grand opening celebrations
San Diego County CU celebrated the grand openings of its two newest branches: one in Mission Viejo, Calif., on Alicia Parkway (pictured), and one in Costa Mesa, Calif., on Harbor Boulevard.

Incident response training
Quincy CU, Quincy, Mass., hosted an incident response training presentation for its employees. The two-hour session was facilitated by Blue U Defense, a defense security training company. It provided practical information that anyone can use to be safe in life, in work or outside of work.

Bikes for kids
Pacific Marine CU, Oceanside, Calif., used its all staff day for a spirited team-building activity that culminated in the assembly of bikes that were donated to children in need at the Boys & Girls Club of Fallbrook. Separately, PMCU employees donated items to create comfort bags for families that might not have planned to spend their evening at Rady Children’s Hospital, and raised $500 for Casa de Amparo through the annual PMCU Holiday Ugly Sweater Contest.

Corporate Community Service award
Redwood CU, Santa Rosa, Calif., received the Corporate Community Service award at the 25th annual Heart of Marin awards, hosted by the Center for Volunteer and Nonprofit Leadership.

Coats and cash
Each year, Greater Eastern CU, Johnson City, Tenn., supports a coat drive to collect coats and cash to benefit local students through Title X homeless programs and school coat closets. GECU collected 98 coats and $153 in cash.

Honoring original members
As part of its 60th anniversary celebration, America’s Christian CU, Glendora, Calif., honored the original 80 members who joined at ACCU’s inception. Each of these 80 charter members received a letter from CEO Mendell Thompson and copies of Diamonds in the Dust.

Great Lakes CU, Bannockburn, Ill., presented Jeremy G. and Maureen G. with $2,500 each in Amazon gift cards. The randomly selected winners were two of nearly 18,000 members who qualified to win the credit union’s Chip & Win contest.

Smithfield, R.I.-based Navigant CU opened its newest branch on Main Street in Wakefield, R.I. The facility previously was a branch of Chartway CU. It is Navigant’s first branch in South County, joining 17 other locations statewide.

Altura CU, Riverside, Calif., was named a “Top Workplace” in the Inland Empire by The Press-Enterprise, the area’s largest newspaper. The Inland Empire, which is about 60 miles east of metro Los Angeles, encompasses the Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario metro area.
