Season of giving

Portland FCU, Portland, Mich., held its annual “Season of Giving” campaign, awarding 50 “Turkey Dinners” to its membership. To accommodate everyone’s dietary needs, the “Turkey Dinner” was a $50 gift card to a local grocery store so members could make their own selections.

Rivertrust starts a new tradition

Rivertrust FCU, Pearl, Miss., held its first annual Employee Ornament Decorating Contest, which raised nearly $600 for the Mississippi State Veterans’ Home. The funds were used to provide socks, t-shirts, house shoes, toboggans and a goody basket for the veterans.

Volunteer of the year

In 2016, GCS CU, Granite City, Ill., created its Caring for our Community program, which generated nearly 1,000 employee volunteer hours. The program rewards staff members for their volunteer hours. The top volunteer in 2016 was the Mortgage Lending Manager James Wing, who volunteered 402 hours in the community.

Xceed Financial CU, El Segundo, Calif., presented Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals with two checks totaling nearly $14,578, marking a year of the CU’s fundraising activities and associate contributions.

Operation: Cookie drop

Team members at Dover FCU, Dover, Del., once again participated in the Cookie Drop project at Dover Air Force Base, baking more than 1,000 cookies for single members of the military who are stationed abroad during the holidays.

Spreading good cheer

In Muncie, Ind., employees of PrimeTrust FCU and their kids spread Christmas cheer by caroling at Signature HealthCARE of Muncie. The CU also hosted a Holiday Card Drive, inviting its members to sign holiday cards to give the residents of local nursing care facilities.

Ten individual North Dakota credit unions and the Credit Union Association of the Dakotas teamed up to win $25,000 for North Dakota’s Children’s Miracle Network Hospital, Sanford Children’s in Fargo, N.D. CO-OP Financial Services awarded the prize to the state with the highest percentage of credit unions participating in the Shop for Miracles fundraiser.

Toy drive

CME FCU, Columbus, Ohio, along with the Columbus Division of Fire and NBC4, held their Annual Firefighters 4 Kids Toy Drive. In addition to hundreds of toy and monetary donations, CME FCU donated $25,000 and more than 200 bikes to the toy drive.

Honoring a credit union legacy

SPIRE Credit Union, Falcon Heights, Minn., hosted a dedication of heritage pieces to commemorate the legacy and history of Greater Minnesota CU, which merged with SPIRE in July 2014.
