US Eagle's car show

The Junior Board of Directors for U.S. Eagle FCU, Albuquerque, N.M., organized and hosted a Car Show benefiting Rio Grande Food Project. A total of 300 food items were collected and nearly 30 show cars were present for attendees to view. Attendees were encouraged to vote by using tickets received in exchange for non-perishable food items.

Reality Check Day

Educators CU, Racine, Wis., helped more than 170 Cudahy High School students prepared for their future at Reality Check Day, a simulation that demonstrates what life is like once students leave the classroom and enter the workforce.

Honoring high school seniors

Merck Sharp & Dohme FCU, Chalfont, Pa., presented Hoffman Memorial Awards to five high school seniors at its annual meeting. For 46 years, the Hoffman Memorial Award recognizes high school seniors who are active in their community, and represent the “People Helping People” philosophy of credit unions. This year, recipients were awarded $5,000 each.

CUs and bank square off for a great cause

Executives from eight Massachusetts credit unions and East Boston Savings Bank squared off against each other to see which team could build the most beds for "A Bed for Every Child,” an initiative of the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless. Although the credit unions prevailed 23 beds to 17, the real victors were the children.

Pen Air FCU, Pensacola, Fla., donated $4,016.56 to the Blue Wahoos and Studer Community Institute to announce a partnership for the benefit of the Early Brain Development initiative.

SDCCU's Classroom Heroes

San Diego County CU recognized Kristin Collins as part of SDCCU Classroom Heroes, a program held in partnership with iHeartMedia. Collins is a 7th grade teacher at Heritage Digital Academy Charter School in Escondido. Winning teachers receive a $500 SDCCU Visa gift card and are recognized as a Classroom Hero on a billboard in their community. Separately, SDCCU is a sponsor of the 2017 San Diego Padres season and it provides ATM services at Petco Park.

Free financial literacy workshop

Pelican State CU, Baton Rouge, La., partnered with Capital Area Finance Authority to host a free Community Financial Literacy Workshop on home buying at the Baton Rouge Parish Main Library. More than 70 Baton Rouge residents received free financial education at the workshop.

Random acts of kindness

Great Lakes CU, Bannockburn, Ill., held its first Random Act of Kindness for 2017 when North Chicago employees stopped in at Nice Dogs for Nice Families to say hello to several adoptable pets. During the visit, they also donated to this rescue, located in Lake Bluff.
