Oregon-based Children’s Miracle Network hospitals Doernbecher and Sacred Heart received $36,000 from Oregon State CU, Corvallis, Ore. This is the fifth consecutive year the CU sent matched funds to the CMN: a five-year total of $141,000.

Security Service gives 'a little help'

San Antonio-based Security Service FCU’s Charitable Foundation gave $2,500 to A Little Help, a Colorado service organization founded by a group of retirees who wanted to offer “a little help” to senior citizens in their neighborhoods, and $2,500 to Rise Recovery, a San Antonio non-profit providing direct recovery services to those negatively affected by drug and alcohol use.

Coat drive

U.S. Eagle FCU, Albuquerque, N.M., organized a coat drive at all nine branches to provide students around New Mexico with coats to keep them warm. Members and employees donated 400 coats. U.S. Eagle also collected socks, gloves, hats and more to donate to the Barrett Foundation.

Veridian expands

Waterloo, Iowa-based Veridian CU opened its first branch outside Iowa, in Omaha, Neb., at the intersection of West Maple Road and 150th Street. Veridian was scheduled to open its second Omaha-area branch in Papillion this spring.

Notre Dame FCU, Notre Dame, Ind., donated $10,000 to the Kelly Cares Foundation, which focuses on a variety of initiatives, including breast cancer awareness.

Columbia CU, Vancouver, Wash., awarded a $2,488 grant to Innovative Services NW to support the work of the organization’s Pediatric Therapy and Neurodevelopmental Center.

Relay for Life donation

Insight CU, Orlando, Fla., donated $2,198 to Relay for Life of Hunter’s Creek to support the initiatives of the American Cancer Society. Proceeds were raised by employees through fundraising in the branches, online and at the event, and they donated 266 hours.

Toy drive

Greater Nevada CU, Carson City, Nev., presented more than 200 toys to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office at the credit union’s Eagle Station branch. The toys were given to children living in motels, cars, campgrounds, with grandparents or doubled up with other families.

FirstLight breaks ground

FirstLight FCU, El Paso, Texas, broke ground on its new facility, which will use Personal Teller Machines to complete transactions through video technology. The new space was designed by LaMacchia Group and will feature 3 PTMs, an iPad technology bar and an iPad center for kids.

Denim days go a long way

Member One FCU, Roanoke, Va., presented a $1,000 gift to STEP, Inc., representing funds raised from quarterly “Denim Days for Charities.” The funds will benefit STEP, Inc.’s LIFES Academy, which provides an engaging alternative setting for students with special needs.
