Partnering to help those in need

Nassau Financial FCU, Westbury, N.Y., teamed up with Kindred at Home to donate 532 lbs. of non-perishable food items to the Mary Brennan INN in Hempstead, N.Y., for families in need in the local community. Nassau Financial matched the donations with a check for $2,625 to support the INN’s food kitchen and local community efforts.

Prepping care packages

Sun East FCU, Aston, Pa., held a large donation and fund-raising event for staff to help the flood victims of Hurricane Harvey. The CU prepared care packages with a variety of cleaning and home supplies, along with gift cards and monetary donations from the Sun East Foundation, to facilitate ongoing clean-up and rebuilding needs.

Thrive's 'Member Market'

Thrive CU, Muncie, Ind., held its first Thrive Member Market, which featured 28 small businesses from Delaware County, including Hillcroft Services Creativity Unlimited. Thrive partnered with Hillcroft Services to raise $500 and feature handmade craft items created by clients through the Creativity Unlimited program.

Wellness grant

TBA Credit Union, Traverse City, Mich., won a wellness grant from Getting to the Heart of the Matter in Michigan, a collaborative project with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. TBA used the grant to acquire standing desks, a stationary exercising bike and cruiser bicycles for team members to enjoy.

New mortgage center

St. Mary’s Bank, Manchester, N.H., celebrated the opening of its new mortgage center in Portsmouth, N.H., with a ribbon-cutting and open house. The new facility will serve the mortgage needs of homebuyers in the Portsmouth area and throughout the Seacoast Region.

Challenging members for Harvey and Irma relief

After Hurricanes Harvey and Irma hit Texas and Florida, NuMark CU, Joliet, Ill., challenged its members to come together and donate at least $2,500 – with the CU promising to match the first $2,500 donated. In total, NuMark collected $7,250 for hurricane relief.

Red Cross donation

Members 1st FCU, Mechanicsburg, Pa., gave $6,150 to the American Red Cross to support hurricane relief efforts. The CU provided a corporate contribution and associates participated in a jeans and sneakers day to raise additional funds to help those impacted by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.

San Diego’s finest educators were celebrated at the 27th Annual “Cox Presents: A Salute to Teachers” brought to you by San Diego County Credit Union. Held in collaboration with the San Diego County Office of Education and Cox Communications, the black-tie gala was a presentation of the 44th Annual San Diego County Teacher of the Year Awards.

Santa Rosa, Calif.-based Redwood CU hosted a free Shred-a-Thon event for the Mendocino County community at its Ukiah, Calif., branch. More than 200 people attended the annual event, securely shredding more than 2.5 tons of documents to protect against identity theft.

Hurricane relief efforts continue

Employees of South Jersey FCU, Deptford, N.J., collected $1,500, which was used to purchase 200 cases of water, nonperishable foods, cleaning supplies and baby products for the victims of Hurricane Harvey.

RTN helps the homeless

In Waltham, Mass., RTN FCU and the RTN GoodWorks Foundation presented a check for $22,039 to the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless. The funds represent proceeds raised from Walk Home 2017, which took place in June.
