Align hosts school supply drive

Align CU, Lowell, Mass., hosted its annual school supply drive. Over two months, members and non-members stopped by with donations of backpacks, binders, notepads, pens, pencils and more. The supplies were given to two charitable organizations and then distributed to local students who need assistance.

Securityplus FCU, Baltimore, held its free Citywide Shred Day event at Camden Yards parking lot H. There were 15 shred trucks on site for this popular event, which annually draws approximately 5,000 people.

Spokane Teachers CU, Liberty Lake, Wash., opened its 21st branch, this one the 3,894-square-foot Airway Heights Branch in the Hayford Crossing development. The branch features solar panels, a free book exchange and a tribute to members of the U.S. armed forces.

St. Paul, Minn.-based City & County CU hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for its new and improved branch in Eagan, Minn. In partnership with design/build firm NewGround, the CU plans to revitalize its presence in Eagan by building a new branch focused on modernizing the traditional approach to banking.

Firefly CU, Burnsville, Minn., partnered with Memorial Blood Centers to host its semi-annual blood drive. Donors gave 16 whole blood cell units, which will have the potential to save up to 48 lives in the community.

Museum donation

Great Lakes CU, Bannockburn, Ill., donated $50,000 to support the National Museum of the American Sailor. The museum campus, to be located in North Chicago near the Great Lakes Naval Station, will be designed with the purpose to preserve, educate and celebrate the history of the United States Navy’s enlisted sailor.

Eagle Community CU, Lake Forest, Calif., awarded scholarships to four local students. The credit union gave each recipient $4,000 to help with college expenses.

Education foundation donation

Employees of America First CU, Riverdale, Utah, volunteered at the Davis Education Foundation Child Spree. As part of the effort, America First donated funds to provide 310 underprivileged children with a new pair of shoes in advance of the first day of school. Separately, America First opened the doors to its newly-remodeled Ogden Harrison location in Ogden, Utah.
