Zeal donates
Zeal CU, Livonia, Mich., donated $1,000 to the Detroit Area Pre-College Engineering Program. The funds were donated by attendees of Zeal’s Incredible Science Machine: Game On! Event.
Align hosts school supply drive
Align CU, Lowell, Mass., hosted its annual school supply drive. Over two months, members and non-members stopped by with donations of backpacks, binders, notepads, pens, pencils and more. The supplies were given to two charitable organizations and then distributed to local students who need assistance.
Golf sponsorship
For the 10th consecutive year, Andrews FCU, Suitland, Md., sponsored the Benjamin O. Davis Golf Classic, hosted by the East Coast Chapter of Tuskegee Airmen at Joint Base Andrews.
Securityplus shreds
Securityplus FCU, Baltimore, held its free Citywide Shred Day event at Camden Yards parking lot H. There were 15 shred trucks on site for this popular event, which annually draws approximately 5,000 people.
STCU opens 21st branch
Spokane Teachers CU, Liberty Lake, Wash., opened its 21st branch, this one the 3,894-square-foot Airway Heights Branch in the Hayford Crossing development. The branch features solar panels, a free book exchange and a tribute to members of the U.S. armed forces.
Member One recognized
Member One FCU, Roanoke, Va., was recognized by The Roanoker magazine in its annual Best of Roanoke awards and received the platinum recognition, the top honor, for Best Credit Union.
City & County break ground
St. Paul, Minn.-based City & County CU hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for its new and improved branch in Eagan, Minn. In partnership with design/build firm NewGround, the CU plans to revitalize its presence in Eagan by building a new branch focused on modernizing the traditional approach to banking.
Firefly saves lives
Firefly CU, Burnsville, Minn., partnered with Memorial Blood Centers to host its semi-annual blood drive. Donors gave 16 whole blood cell units, which will have the potential to save up to 48 lives in the community.
WHEEL scholarships
LAFCU, Lansing, Mich., awarded its 2017 LAFCU Women Helping Educate Every Lady, or W.H.E.E.L., scholarships to three women who see education as the direct path to a new career and a more financially secure future for their families.
Museum donation
Great Lakes CU, Bannockburn, Ill., donated $50,000 to support the National Museum of the American Sailor. The museum campus, to be located in North Chicago near the Great Lakes Naval Station, will be designed with the purpose to preserve, educate and celebrate the history of the United States Navy’s enlisted sailor.
Eagle Community awards scholarships
Eagle Community CU, Lake Forest, Calif., awarded scholarships to four local students. The credit union gave each recipient $4,000 to help with college expenses.
Education foundation donation
Employees of America First CU, Riverdale, Utah, volunteered at the Davis Education Foundation Child Spree. As part of the effort, America First donated funds to provide 310 underprivileged children with a new pair of shoes in advance of the first day of school. Separately, America First opened the doors to its newly-remodeled Ogden Harrison location in Ogden, Utah.
Happy birthday, First City
First City CU in Los Angeles celebrated its 80th anniversary with a number of events in September, culminating on the credit union’s “birth date” or date of establishment, Sept. 28.

BMI's Frosty 5K
BMI FCU, Columbus, Ohio, helped sponsor the Frosty 5K Run for Adoption, which raises funds and awareness for the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.
Minnesota's Maxwell, Herring and Desjardins winners
The Minnesota CU Network announced the state-level winners of the 2017 Dora Maxwell, Louise Herring, and Desjardins award competitions, which are sponsored each year by MnCUN and CUNA.

First Tech's scolars
In continuation of an eight-year tradition, First Tech FCU, Beaverton, Ore., and Mountain View, Calif., awarded $55,000 in scholarships to 12 students across the country who showcased determination, high academic achievement and involvement within their communities.
