Align CU, Lowell, Mass., awarded the $2,000 grand prize in its Cutest Baby Contest to Landon Schneider of Plymouth, Mass. The contest was a partnership with radio station Magic 106.7 FM.

Scholarships awarded

WFCU Credit Union, Windsor, Ontario, Canada announced the recipients of the Harold Hewitt Scholarship: 28 recipients were chosen from 340 submissions to receive scholarships that will have a value of $2,000 each by the time the student completes grade 12 (this includes the initial scholarship amount received, plus interest earned over the years until completing grade 12).

First Florida continues expansion

Jacksonville, Fla.-based First Florida CU held a ground-breaking ceremony for its newest Tallahassee branch, located in the Bannerman Crossing area. The branch will be FFCU’s sixth location in Tallahassee and its 14th in the state as part of its plan to continue expanding.

LOGAN Center donation

United FCU, St. Joseph, Mich., gave $30,000 to LOGAN to help pay for a classroom for children with autism. LOGAN, based in South Bend, Ind., is a not-for-profit offering resources and opportunities to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Separately, UFCU gave $1,000 each to four Washoe County schools to bolster curriculum and advance technology.

Making giving back a good time

Employees of Catholic Vantage Financial FCU, Livonia, Mich., participated in a “Foot Rally.” Staffers were divided into three teams of seven to compete to find hidden clues and do tasks. At one stop, teams decorated lunch bags to be distributed to homeless people in metro Detroit. At another, they assembled care packages for and wrote personal thank you notes to U.S. troops.

Reality Fair

TruMark Financial CU, Fort Washington, Pa., and the Pennsylvania CU Foundation sponsored a Financial Reality Fair at William Tennent High School. Some 165 students from three high schools experienced what life would be like having a career and managing their own finances.

Clinton Township, Mich.-based FreeStar Financial CU, which was chartered in 1957 at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, recognized veterans at its four branches by posting photos members submitted of themselves or their loved ones who have served in the armed forces.

Diamond CU, Pottstown, Pa., once again was the Tower Sponsor of the Reading Hospital Road Run Half Marathon, 5K, and 1-Mile races. More than over 600 runners participated in the event, raising more than $70,000.
