FNB United Changes Subsidiary's Name

FNB United Corp. of Asheboro, N.C., said that it would change the name of its subsidiary bank to CommunityONE Bank on June 4.

The $1.8 billion-asset FNB said it was making the change to distinguish itself from the competition and build a better brand. It currently operates its bank under one charter, but four separate brands: First National Bank, Catawba Valley Bank, First Gaston Bank, and Northwestern Bank of Wilkesboro. First National is the largest of the four brands with 26 branches.

In April 2006 when FNB Corp. acquired Integrity Financial Corp. in Hickory to form FNB United.

The company said that it does not intend to close any branches as a result of the rebranding, and that customers would retain their account numbers.
