WASHINGTON -- Fifty-nine national banks out of 475 were awarded "outstanding" Community Reinvestment Act compliance ratings last month by the Office Of the Comptroller of the Currency.
The list, which covers the period from Feb. I to July 31, assigned one of four compliance categories to each bank: "outstanding," "satisfactory," "needs to improve," and "substantial noncompliance."
Just over three quarters of the 475 banks evaluated were rated "satisfactory," 59 won "outstanding" ratings, and the Comptroller's office said 53 "need to improve."
Of the 475, one institution, National Bank of Commerce in Berkely, Ill., was given the lowest rating, substantial noncompliance."
