ACI Shifts SunTrust ATM Network

SunTrust Banks Inc. has completed the move of its automated teller machine network to its main data communication system, the payments software vendor ACI Worldwide Inc. announced Wednesday.

SunTrust, of Atlanta, used ACI Communication Services for Advanced Networking to eliminate a separate network, based on proprietary technology called System Network Architecture, to move the ATM operation to its main data network, which is based on Internet protocols.

"The consolidation of servers and increased transaction volumes within the enterprise required highly available, extremely fast connectivity," James Bone, a SunTrust vice president of ATM development, said in the New York company's press release. "We exceeded throughput requirements while reducing both response time and demand on system resources."

SunTrust has been an ACI customer for more than 25 years.
