A.G. Edwards-Wachovia Deal Gets OK

A.G. Edwards Inc. shareholders approved the St. Louis brokerage firm's deal, set to close today, to be sold to Wachovia Corp. for $6.6 billion.

The $720 billion-asset Wachovia, of Charlotte, announced the deal in May. The combined brokerage firm is to be called Wachovia Securities and have its headquarters in St. Louis. Wachovia plans to cut about 4,000 jobs at the combined firm.
