Alan Delp, Chairman of First Chicago's Business Bank, Dies at 55

Alan F. Delp, 55, chairman of American National Bank and Trust Co. of Chicago, died Tuesday of pancreatic cancer.

Mr. Delp was a career banker at American National's parent, First Chicago NBD Corp., spending most of his time in international banking. He was hired by First Chicago in 1969 as an account officer and worked in Beirut, Brussels, Hong Kong, and London. He was group head of the Europe, Middle East, and Africa region and of the Asia-Pacific region, and he also was head of international banking.

In 1992, he was named chief credit officer at American National, a middle-market business lender, to clean up problem realty-related loans on its books.

"He had an excellent touch," said Leo Mullin, former First Chicago president. "He was very demanding handling credit situations, but he also had a very strong customer orientation."

Mr. Delp, a U.S. Navy pilot during the Vietnam War, is survived by his wife and twin children, a son and daughter. -
