Amex Will Sell Prepaid Cards at Office Depot

American Express Co. is partnering with Office Depot Inc. to offer its prepaid cards at some office supply stores across the country.

The Amex card is the first prepaid card offered at Office Depot. The card network will begin rolling out the product at more than 1,100 locations in coming weeks, according to a Wednesday press release.

"This prepaid card is a smart solution for small businesses or families looking to manage their day-to-day finances and we look forward to working with Office Depot to provide a new payment option for their customers," Alpesh Chokshi, President of Global Payment Options at American Express, said in the press release.

Customers can purchase and load a one-time temporary card at Office Depot for $4.95. They can then order Amex's reloadable prepaid card online for free.

American Express also announced several new features for its prepaid cards: customers can now set up direct deposit of up to $5,000 per month, for no fees, and can withdraw up to $400 a day at ATMs. They are also now able to reload their cards using the Vanilla Reload Network by InComm at Office Depot and other locations nationwide.

American Express rolled out its prepaid card last June.
