Attorney General Files Brief on Consumer's Behalf

Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray, who has been clamping down on foreclosure fraud, has become closely involved in a specific case.

On Thursday, Cordray filed a friend-of-the-court brief on behalf of a Parma, Ohio, man whose home is being foreclosed on by GMAC Mortgage, part of Ally Financial Inc., requesting the court consider evidence that the company has committed fraud that blemishes the entire judicial system.

"Judges rely upon the accuracy of affidavits to grant judgments and ensure that the integrity of the judicial system can be trusted," Cordray said in the brief. "False affidavits are a threat to our legal system; further damage must be prevented."

Cordray acknowledged that his involvement in an individual case was unusual.
