B of A's Enterprise CIO Marc Gordon Joins Amex

Former Bank of America (BAC) executive Marc Gordon has been appointed executive vice president and chief information officer at American Express (AXP), the credit card company announced Tuesday.

Gordon, who previously served as enterprise CIO and chief technology officer at B of A, will start in the new position Sept. 4. Previously he was CIO for Best Buy and the Timberland Company, which sells boots and outdoor apparel. He started his career at the consultancy Accenture.

"The tremendous strengths of the company's brand, products and people made this an irresistible opportunity. American Express has a long history of delivering innovative solutions for customers," Gordon said in a press release Tuesday. "I'm excited to join the company at this critical time, as American Express continues to transform the customer experience to better meet the needs of our increasingly digital society."

Gordon has also served on the U.S. National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee, and has advised government agencies on cyber security and emergency preparedness. In addition he leads the national board of the Parent Advocacy Coalition for Educational Rights, an organization for children with disabilities.

He's a graduate of Colby College and MIT's Sloan School of Management.
