Bank of America Corp. has agreed to offer the American Express Co.'s gift cards at its branches.
Amex said Wednesday that the cards would be available by Monday in $25, $50, and $100 denominations at the branches.
"We want to make our gift cards available where consumers expect to find them for sale, and many of our customers prefer to buy gift cards at their local bank branch," Alpesh Chokshi, the president of the New York card company's travelers check and prepaid services unit, said in a press release.
Bank of America became an Amex card issuer in January of last year through the acquisition of MBNA Corp., the first third-party issuer of Amex cards in the United States after a court ruling freed Amex to offer its cards through banks. B of A later announced its own issuing agreement with Amex.
Amex sold more gift cards last year than it had in all the years, combined, since introducing them in 2002, the company said.
