Bank of Ireland Group is using scanning systems from Panini North America Inc. of Dayton, Ohio, to capture check images at its teller windows.

Panini said last week that the Dublin company had installed the My Vision X systems at all its branches in Ireland, at back counters of some of its large branches, and in its Dublin processing center. Bank of Ireland has more than 300 branches in Ireland and Great Britain.

Bank of Ireland said it wanted to convert the items into electronic files as early in the processing chain as possible and is using the scanners to capture images of more than 300,000 checks and deposit slips daily. Entering the files into the system electronically is meant to help the company update customers' accounts in real time and can accelerate clearing and settling.

Jim Molloy, a Bank of Ireland business consultant for developing payment systems, said in a Panini press release that it selected the vendor's equipment because it "could handle the typical BOI paper mix and provide a quick end-to-end process, superior MICR read rates, and high-quality images."
