Bank teller among the five dead after Christmas parade attack

A bank teller was among the five people killed Sunday when a driver plowed into a Christmas parade in Waukesha, Wisconsin.

Jane Kulich, 52, was walking alongside her employer’s parade float when she was struck and died of her injuries, according to a spokeswoman for Citizens Bank in Mukwonago, Wisconsin. The bank declined to provide further details, citing a desire to respect Kulich’s family’s privacy.

“Our condolences go out to her family and friends for this inconceivable loss,” the bank said in a statement. “Please lift up our team and the entire community as we grieve.”

Kulich had worked as a teller for the $995 million-asset bank for about a year, according to her LinkedIn profile. Before that, she worked for a dry cleaning company, as a restaurant server and as a caregiver. Shannon Calhoun, who organized a GoFundMe to raise money for Kulich’s family, described her as a “loving, beautiful and charismatic mother, grandmother and friend to so many.”

Also killed on Sunday were three members of the Milwaukee-based Dancing Grannies troupe: Virginia Sorenson, 79, LeAnna Owen, 71 and Tamara Durand, 52. A fifth victim, Wilhelm Hospel, 82, was the husband of one of the Dancing Grannies performing in the parade.

Darrell Brooks, 39, of Milwaukee, was arrested at the scene and remains in police custody. According to authorities, Brooks was fleeing the scene of a domestic disturbance when he crashed through barricades and raced down the parade route. Forty-eight other people were injured, including 18 children, six of whom were in critical condition. Brooks was charged with five counts of intentional homicide.
