WASHINGTON — It's official: Dodd-Frank is heating up the presidential campaign trail.
During a stop in Virginia on Wednesday, Vice President Joe Biden attacked Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney for his opposition to Dodd-Frank. Although Romney has provided virtually no details about his financial services policy, he has said he would repeal Dodd-Frank and replace it with a "streamlined regulatory framework."
Biden seized on that position in a stop near Blacksburg.
"Let's take a look at what they value," Biden said. "Let's take a look at their budget. Let's take a look at what they're proposing. Romney says in the first 100 days, he wants to let the big banks write their own rules again. Get rid of Dodd-Frank."
While some may see Dodd-Frank as too wonky for a campaign speech, the crowd seemed to like the line, booing Romney. It should be noted, however, that although Romney definitely wants to repeal Dodd-Frank, he has said nothing about letting the "big banks write their own rules again."
