Brookline Bancorp in Boston said James McCarthy will succeed Russell Cole next month as president and CEO of First Ipswich Bank.
Cole has been president and CEO of the $365 million-asset First Ipswich for the past 10 years. He will retire on Oct. 1 "to attend to family matters," Brookline said Friday.
McCarthy has been on First Ipswich's board of directors since 2013. He has been chief operating officer at Danvers Bancorp in Danvers, Mass., and president and CEO of Revere Federal Savings Bank in Revere, Mass.
The $6.3 billion-asset Brookline announced on Sept. 21 that it had promoted Darryl Fess, its head of commercial real estate lending, to president and CEO of its Brookline Bank subsidiary.
